Michele answered Sunday May 1 2005, 7:17 pm: LOw sodium hyponatremia is common in long distance runners and marathon runners. THey over hydrate themselves during a long distance run, and because they are exerting so much energy, thier sodium levels drop. The extra water they drink contributes to that, and yes, they are advised to limit their intake of fluids. Are you an avid athlete? Do you run or exercise a lot, and drink a lot of water? Or do you sweat a lot?The recommendations that you have been given, seem to agree with what I know about it. restricted fluid intake. Try not to avoid salt in your diet, if you can help it.
