What is nice about this field is that there is a wide variety of things you could do. You could do anything from designing logos, packaging, ads, coupons, CDs and book covers, typography, or manipulating and restoring photos. Really most everything you see that has graphics and text has been touched by a graphic designer.

I work at a catolog company where I do page layout. It's a lot like putting together a puzzle, and making it look good at the same time. I have to be very detail oriented, especially while formatting copy. Everything has to be spaced and lined up just right. There is no room for mistake- although you would be suprized how often you see them in ads and newspapers if you actually look. I also scan, prepare and manipulate images.

You should talk with your friends dad about it.
