A blood test is really the only way to know for sure. Usually more than one. It can take the body up to 35 months to produce a detectable amount of the virus in your blood.

A lot of the symptoms are a lot like the cold or flu. Please, if you have those kinds of symptoms do not automatically assume you have it. It also causes purplish skin lesions that do not go away.

Blood tests are the only true way to know for sure. I would go into more detail but you don't say how old you are, or if you have even had risky behavior. Like I said earlier I wouldn't want to scare you by telling you something that you might take the wrong way. Feel free to come back if you want to talk about it in more detail, or email me if you'd like to. Address is on my column. :)
