a friend asked him one day and he just smiled, then the bell rung so he had to get to class. he didnt say yes or no, just smiled! im gonna try tomorrow to talk to him, but if i chicken out, should i write a note?

Yeah , you can write a note. Smiling is good, that could be a sign of something.
