Musically inclined?

Question Posted Tuesday February 15 2005, 9:00 pm

I have this problem with my singing. Im told by a few people that i am pretty good and all.. but i somehow dont have enough confidence in myself compared to a lot of othre people in my chorus. My music teacher is always cracking jokes on me about thank god that he doesnt have to hear my solo anymore and what not... But when I talk to him personally he tells me that if he didnt think that I was good then he wouldnt have chosen me for all county and all this stuff... and that i just need to work on my musicianship and all.. But somehow i am extremly confused... can someone help me figure this whole thing out?
I rate!

Well it depends, my music teacher jokes around with me all the time too, but it doesn't mean anything, I'm sure he's not trying to embarrass you or anything, just kidding around. And if you got into like honor chorus and all that stuff, you must be worth something. You might not realize it but you might seem to show off or something like that alot and it makes people mad. Maybe you should try giving other people chances in chorus, and clapping and showing that you thought whoever sang or whatever was good, (even if they weren't lol) then your music teacher might think more about it. I don't really know because there could be a million things that he might be talkin about..

Hope I Helped!

-Heather

All you need is confidence! Your teacher obviously has confidence in you - he wouldn't have picked you otherwise. Just sing in front of people as often as you can and it will come easier. Hope I helped!

Talk to your chorus teacher, tell him that he is embarassing you and that you would like to no if you really do sound bad. After that just use a recorder, record your voice, and listen to decide for yourself.

some teachers are just like that, he probably thinks you can take a joke, your teacher wouldnt keep you around if you were a bad singer, you just need to bulid up your confidence

Your teacher is a jerk. Thats the end of that. But, to get more confidence, try singing in front of your family. If that bugs you, than just try singing infront of your mirror. It may feel wierd, but it would help alot. Maybe try recording your singing and play it back to see what you have to work on.

MFS answered Tuesday February 15 2005, 10:25 pm:
I will guess that your voice has excellent quality to it - great tone, depth, etc... it might be that you lack control, need more discipline, and probalby need to work on your intonation. This is perfectly normal. I think you're probably being razzed a bit as an oblique way to try to inspire you. If you're being told that he thinks you've got potential privately, then he's really trying to encourage you to work hard because your teacher thinks you have the ability to really make something of your voice.

The only way to find out if he's right is to give it a shot.

Aww i'm sure your a great singer. I get picked on a lot for playing my instrument cuz i'm into music so much. I've been called a " band freak" and that my instrument is like so weird { i play the barri sax}. Dont worry about what other people say you just have to believe in yourself that your good. Yes, your chorus teacher chose you for all county and i know wut it is lol im in it too, that means your great at singing!!! Believe me theres like a certain amount of people they can take and they choose the best, and your one of them!!! If you need more advice IM me { my sn is on the right }
