(1) Wear clothes you can dance in.
Kind of a duh...in other words don't wear a skirt unless it's a formal. Pants are sooo much easier to dance in...and avoid bulky jackets. Just a tee or tank will do. Or if you really need it a tight hoodie.
(2) Relax!
Don't worry- the majority of people aren't watching you. Be comfortable with yourself!
(3) Get inspiration.
Find someone who's a good dancer and watch what they do. Notice I didn't say copy everything they do, though.
(4) Look around you.
How are the people around you dancing? Are they jumping up and down? Dropping? Freaking? Make sure what you're doing is appropriate for where you are. (IE don't grind too much at a school dance)
(5) Just dance!
As cliche as it sounds, shake your booty! Up and down, bend your knees, move down and up, move your shoulders to the beat. Grab a friend's hands and go down and up slowly.
