Question Posted Sunday February 13 2005, 1:44 pm

One day my dog just started shaking all of a sudden and we didn't know why. It only lasted a few minutes and then he seemed fine but still scared. It's happened three times so far. My aunt thinks it was seizures, and was probably caused by the heartworm medication. Does anyone know what causes seizures in dogs or how to prevent them?

Seizures have sny number of causes. What a seizure is is a misfire in the brain, kinda like a short circuit. It could be caused by a predisposition (some dogs are prone to this), a tumor, something he ate, a fall or blow to the head, or the meds.

Take him to the vet. ASAP. Seizures can be dangerous.

Aw, I'm sorry. I tried searching on Google, but couldn't really find anything helpful. I would suggest taking it to a vet, because it could have been a seizure. I really hope your dog is okay. Good luck!
