No time to do what I love most.

Question Posted Thursday January 27 2005, 3:21 pm

Well, to start off I'm 15/f. I play the guitar and I have for about 2 years now and I absolutly love it. I just started highschool this past September. In November I signed up to be on my schools fencing team. I don't seem to have time to do any of the things that I used to do. I'm so caught up with all of my school work, and fencing practice, I hardly have any time at all to even pick up my guitar and strum a few chords. I feel guilty now because I show up at my guitar lessons and my teacher is expecting me to have the song we had worked on for the past 3 weeks perfectly memorized, because that's how it was for me when I first started playing, and I can hardly play the first 2 notes! I miss playing and I love fencing just the same and I don't want to give up fencing. Is there any way that I can find the time to play my guitar, do all of my school work, and fence at the same time? It's so frustrating! Please help!

Additional info, added Thursday January 27 2005, 6:22 pm:
My schedule for the weekdays is 3:15 I get home and do my homework which takes me about 2-3 hours depending on how much work I got. I make dinner around 6, eat dinner and then get ready for fencing practice which starts at 7 and ends at 9. I get back at 9:15 and then I change and crap and then I call my boyfriend (who goes to another school) and then I go to sleep since I'm whiped out. Weekends, I'm either babysitting, at a fencing meet or at fencing practice. I have no time for ANYTHING..

Unfortunately as you go into the higher fields of education, time becomes an issue esp when you have a lot of interests. I know that I barely have time to do all the things I used to do when I was younger.

The only way you can do this though is to schedule in time for everything. I always recommend that a person for a few days keep track of what they do and at what time. Write down every inane thing that you can think of and then at the end of the day you see what you did and how much time you might have wasted. I've done this and I'm shocked to see how much time I waste not doing anything (yes, I know, I'm on this site, but I go on this site when I'm waiting for pts to get ready to be seen so I don't have other things to do). Then if you have a planner, schedule time for playing your guitar, studying, and fencing. Be meticulous and you may just find even just a half hour to play everyday, and you won't feel bad b/c you scheduled that time (like a mini-guitar lesson everyday).

Hope it works out.

Yours,
Arun

Either give something up, or budget your time better. If all of these things are really importatn to you, then don't hang out with your friends as often. You'll see them in the summer.
