Don't want to change my AIM screenname..

Question Posted Monday January 17 2005, 5:01 pm

OK, my family is getting rid of AOL, which has my aol e-mail account. Through that account, I have my AIM screenname. I don't want to lose that screenname, because everyone knows it and it will be a hassle. How can I keep the AIM screenname even though I am deleting the corresponding e-mail account?

No, I don't think there is a way you can keep it. Save you buddy list and then load it to a new name.

I'm pretty sure you can keep your screenname because non AOL users can download AIM. So don't be worried about this. If it does just create a new account with the same screenname!

You cant keep it hun, sorry. I had the same issue a few months ago. So just make a new one, tell it to all your friends now..and that way there wont be any mass confusion when the account gets shut off.

go to aim.com or aol.com and download AOL Instant Messenger. And then put your current screen name in when you register as a new user. it is easy and only takes about 15-20 depending on how slow or ffast your computer is. if it is slow, then it may take a while longer, it if it a pretty decent running computer, then it wont take long at all to do this.

Is your AIM screen name the same as your AOL account name? If it is, then once you delete your AOL account, you can't keep your AIM screen name. If it's a different screen name, just download AIM from [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) and put your screen name into the window thing. Hope I helped :)

Hey, if you will jsut go to www.aim.com and download AIM. Which only takes bout 15 min. Then after you do that it will ask you to sign in and just put in or regular username and password. It should be good to go. I really dont think deleting your aol account will delete ur AIM username. Maybe I helped. Please rate.

you can keep the program AIM if you're using a DSL or Cable hook up... but if you're using a modem you're going to need some sort of dial program to get the internet to run your AIM. I'm assuming you have AIM downloaded separately from AOL.. if not, do that.
