Question Posted Saturday January 8 2005, 2:41 pm

i've been to school to be a Phlebotomist and EKG Technician, but i haven't had any luck finding jobs in those fields because they all want at least a year's experience. Any ideas as to how and where i could get experience (possibly paid)? Thanks!

when you went to school did you take an externship? Does that not count towards some experience?

If you are unable to find any places that will pay you to work, then you will need to do some internships to get the experience. Even if your not getting paid, then it has to be better than what your going through right now.

If all else fails, you should go back to the college or university that you studied at. The proffessors most likely have experience in the field. I'm guessing many are practicing at the moment, or have practiced in the past. They can give you some excellant advice to someone looking for a job.

While I had to look up Phlebotomist and EKG Technician to know anything about it, I am in, or may be in a similar situation. I'm going to school as a Veterinary Technologist. But throughout my schooling I am volunteering when the time comes up, and I will be spending 14 weeks doing an externship before I get my degree. I'm planning ahead so that I can have a full resume when the time comes to getting the best paying job I can find.

Perhaps you can still do some small jobs associated with your college. They should usually have plenty of programs that help their students get experience lined up. The more you have to put on your resume, they better your chances of impressing a potention employer should be.
