Asuka answered Saturday November 20 2004, 6:01 pm: You have to finish the first pack and menstruate before the pill takes that kind of effect. Even then it isn't 100%. However, if you take it regularly and don't miss any, it's pretty effective, I'm thinking like 98% effective. The only reason most people get pregnant on the pill is because they miss one here or there or they don't wait long enough after the first pack to begin having sex. Also, birth control pills do NOT guard against STDs such as AIDS, Herpes, etc...So I'd use a condom if I were you, unless you're absolutely certain (i.e. have seen their lab tests)that they don't have an STD,if you're married, or have been with them a long time.
Siren_Cytherea answered Friday November 19 2004, 11:28 pm: It usually takes about a month for any birth control pill to kick in, but even then, I would suggest using a condom, simply because birth control pills are not 100% preventative, and I'm sure you know that. But if you're intent on not using a condom, make sure you take the pill at the same time every night and watch your periods to make sure they're relatively on schedule.
I hope this helps!

MoonFisher answered Friday November 19 2004, 9:57 pm: The instructions should say. Usually you start the pill during your period, so it is immediately effective as you won't ovulate for at least a week after menarche. [ MoonFisher's advice column | Ask MoonFisher A Question ]
