Do I have ADD?

Question Posted Wednesday November 10 2004, 6:51 pm

I already saw someone with an ADD question, but I'd thought I'd make my own. Lately I haven't been concentrating on anything in class. I don't have THAT much stuff on my mind, and when some people get bored, they're still able to concentrate--just being bored. I can't even do that. My question is, what are the signs of having ADD, and what is it exactly?? I would tell myself in class, "Okay, I need to concentrate..." seriously like 10 seconds later, I'm off in space again...and I won't realize it until like a minute later, and even then I won't concentrate, I'll just keep thinking about other things. And that same pattern just goes on and on again...

Also, if you for sure have ADD, what are you supposed to do about it? Do they give you medicine or anything?

It is possible that you have ADD or ADHD. ADD is Attention-Deficit Disorder...when you can not concentrate or pay attention. ADHD is Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder...when you show ADD symptoms plus you are hyper a lot.

This site has a great checklist to see if you have ADD or ADHD.

If you feel you have ADD and it is impacting on your ability to run your life, see a doctor. You can be prescribed medicines to help it.

I have the same problem. When teachers are talking I drift off in a world of my own. I'm pretty sure I don't have add, I just can't concentrate on boring stuff.

It doesn't sound like you have ADD. The classes might just not be stimulating your brain enough to pay attention, or the teacher is monotone, boring, studders, can't focus, or something else that won't keep your attention.

ADD stands for Attention Deficit Disorder..it is caused by a cerebral disfunction in your brain...now that doesnt mean youre retarded or anything, it just means that your brain has a problem keeping you concentrated..ADD is noted by a short temper, learning problems due to lack of concentration, unorganization, and tons of other stupid shit. even if you do experience these problems..you may not have ADD. you could have AD/HD or you could possibly even have nothing wrong with you at all. AD/HD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. with AD/HD you have hyperactive issues involving having too much energy and even more trouble concentrating. different people have different symptoms for ADD and AD/HD. yes there are medications for both, i, myself take medication for AD/HD. i was diagnosed with it when i was about 8 or 9..males suffer from it more often than females. there is nothing wrong with having ADD or AD/HD, you are normal just like everyone else..you just have trouble being organized and staying on task. no biggie. there are tons of different medications for both of them and most of them do not work at all. the most popular of the medicines is "Ritalin" but i have to say..i used to take ritalin, all it does is make you paranoid and occaisionally more hyper than you were to start. im off ritalin now and i am on adderal..its not that great either..it kills your apetite, makes you drowsy for a little bit, then once youre over the drowsiness, you are hyper again, and also it tends to give people depression. you should see a doctor about ADD and AD/HD to see if you have it so he can put you on a medication and you can be on task like you used to be...
cya, just tell me if theres anything else you want to know..
