Well Kirby, According to my research, Houston, Texas in the suburb of cypress off of keith harrow and highway 6 gets an average of about 16 inches of rain in the month of april, which is usually the best time to plant a maple tree. The climate does have an effect on the growth, such as if the tree is exposed to harshly cold climates, or extremely hot weather. Be sure to keep your maple tree planted in the shade of your home, and well watered. If you take my advice on this, you'll have a beautiful maple tree in no time!! ;-) smart ass.
