Publishing I just finished my first book and i have no idea where to go now with it. I'd really like to get it published, but i don't know where to begin. How did you start out?

Well, I have nothing published yet, but I started by going to the library and checking out a copy of Writer's Market 2003 and Writer's Handbook. I took the newest version (2004) and wrote down a bunch of agents and ways to contact them, etc. Look for agents who are actually looking for new talent - pay attention to the ones that have a high percentage of new writers.
Beware of agents that ask for money first off. They're not agents!
Real literary agents will get like 15% of your profit when you sell.
You might want to publish a couple of short stories first if you can - Doug Allyn told me he did that, and agents like writers that have been published, but it's not a necessity.
I can write 300 page novels, but I can't write short stories! Lol.
Be prepared for rejection - I'm sure you knew that already, though. Someone will bite, but it might not be the first person you talk to!
The Writer's Market will help you loads.
Good luck - lemme know if you get published so I can read your book! Lol
