I'm not really sure.

Question Posted Wednesday May 19 2004, 4:40 pm

Sometimes everything in life seems great.
And five minutes later, it all falls down.
Lately, fewer things seem great and there doesn't seem anywhere to turn to, to escape it all.
I'm starting to drink more often than usual, and cutting my arms so that I become so dizzy that I forget about all my problems.
Some of my friends have called me depressed, but I don't think it's true. I just can't seem to feel any happiness in anything I do anymore.
Is there anything wrong with me?
I'm 15 and a female, in grade 10.

You could be bi-polar, a case where your depressive one moment, and manic in the next. Are you victim to several mood swings a week? If you're bi-polar, you might feel like 2 different people. You can ask your regular doctor for medication or excercises that will help to level you.

It's normal to feel a little "blue" sometimes.
You are at a confusing age of "15" and still very
young so there is nothing wrong with you. It is a common feeling with girls your age because you are still exploring, and discovering who you are and learning about life.
I suggest that you go see a specialized doctor in "phychology", to talk to and perhaps it would help if you took some "happy pills" , like for example - "St. John's Wort", you can buy then at the drugstore. Taking these pills are natural ingredients and won't hurt you. Try it and let me know what happens. Good Luck!

Paris answered Wednesday May 19 2004, 8:23 pm:
One of the symptoms of depression is losing interest or not having a desire to do anything. So it definitely sounds like you're suffering from depression. But drinking or self harming is absolutely NOT the way out. It will only make things worse. As you get more and more used to the pain of cutting your arms or getting high on drinks, you will only end up wanting to increase the amount of cutting or drinking to get the same level of sensation. So, stop right now and try to work out what would have to change in the environment to make you no longer feel like hurting yourself. Develop healthy, new ways of coping. TALK to someone about how you feel. You cannot deal with this on your own. You're not alone in feeling life is pointless and certainly you're not alone when it comes to turning to drink or self harm to null the pain. So the help is out there. Your problems may seem too huge to overcome right now, but you will.

Well, you should stop cutting yourself, even though the chances of you cutting too deep are slim. You seem pretty normal to me. Not being able to find happiness in anything you do is a sign of depression though. People always suggest exercising, I don't know about you but I hate exercising with a passion. Clearly you're going through troubled times, and all I can think of to tell you is to try something you've never tried before. I would be able to help more if I knew specifically what was bothering you.

Ok Maybe you are depressed but drinking and cutting your arms isn't the key to your problems because in the long run your just going to hurt yourself. Your a 15 year old girl you shouldn't have to deal with problems that are all big and bad trust me I know. I'm 17 and went threw the same stage that your going threw so the way to fix this is just to put your troubles aside and live a happy life... either that or you can go to a shrink and talk about your problems. It's always good to talk about your problems.

you need to tell your parents, and they can help you also need to go see a doctor. to tell you the truth i was the same as you and finally told someone, and i got help and im doing alot better now so i think you should definetly tell someone so they can get you the help you need. its not right to always be so down on yourself you deserve to be happy. so do yourself a favor and tell someone, you will be glad you did.
