Bread

Question Posted Saturday March 27 2004, 12:40 am

I keep trying to get my bread to rise in the oven, but it always seems to fall flat. Would you happen to know why it never seems to perform?

oh wow... made me think about that, and even look up some info... if I see her, I'll get feedback from my grandmother, too (as she is the resident master and commander of all things food within the family).

But:

I'd guess one of two things:

You either aren't adding enough yeast (or your yeast is no longer any good - do you store your yeast in the fridge?)

or...

You are baking the bread too long - so the bread really does rise, but then as it bakes for beyond what it needs the air inside escapes, causing the bread to fall flat.

We have a breadmaker machine at our house, which makes life much easier in that regard.. I think I've only done bread in the actual oven once, and that was in college.
