Borrow whatever bit of punkishness best reflects who you are and what you like, and modify it until it really reflects who you are. You may or may not wind up punkish, but you'll have a new element to your style which you've thought about and have a reason for. A lot of subcultural dress has been thought up in a similar way, and it's all about process rather than imitation, right?

Perhaps you should worry about being less superficial?

First you should realize that punk is a culture born of music, not of clothing.
If you want to look "punkish," make your own clothes. Alter stuff. Vintage is a nice way to start.
No one will hate you if you don't go all out -they may if you go all Avril, though.

Try wearing some of those cool black belts with spikes! Belts are always a big part of things these days. Maybe get some black dickie pants or if you dont want that try a weird and out there shirt that nobody has. Hope it helped!
