Hi there. I use and have used loads of Nikon software over the years and I'm sure the language is only selectable at the install stage. The stuff on discs with dslr's and film scanners etc always have several complete installers in all the available languages all included. You can choose the right one. Any downloads I get from Nikon, my browser sends me to the uk site and I always get an English language version. There are no prefs or options in any of the Nikon software I have installed now that allow a language switch, I've had a look. Capture NX2 (which includes the viewer) is the closest I have to NikonView running now. I imagine it's not easy to change the whole language a program runs in? A case of sourcing the right installer then? Always found Nikon very helpful so get in touch.

Hi there,

I went through the manual, and wasn't able to find a way to change the language settings except to re-install over the top of the last copy, and choose a new language at the time.

I suggest you do NOT do this unless it is a last resort. Normally I would install ViewNX 2, and go through the options, but I am afraid this is a crazy busy time for me right now. :-(

I am guessing you looked through all the options pages in the program, but just in case you haven't, please double check there for a drop down selector that will allow you to pick a new language.

If it were me, I would contact Nikon for a definitive answer:

Nikon support number:

Call 1-800-Nikon-US (1-800-645-6687) 9AM-8PM EST, Monday to Friday

A couple other thoughts: How about installing it on a different machine, so your little sister doesn't accidentally destroy your life's work? ;-)

Also, I don't know what you are doing for back-ups of your photos, but if they are this important to you, please consider backing them up.

In theory, you could back them up, install the latest version of the program, in English:

... then import your photos.

Please let me know in feedback what Nikon Support says about this. If there is an easy way, I would like to know for the next time this comes up.

By the way, I think it is great that you are teaching your sister, the world needs more sisters like you!

Wishing you all the best with this.
