Is God real?

Question Posted Sunday November 17 2013, 3:50 am

I feel so quilty saying this, because God might be mad that I am questioning him, but im so scared. I never touch the Bible but I should. And when I hear a voice in my head I think its just my imagination. Im scared of dying, cause its just so scary. I know its part of life, but there is so many things out there that can kill you, it makes no sense. I wish I could ask what happens when you die, but I can,t. I ask and pray for God to show me something like they do in the Bible but nothing happens. The stuff in the bible is so awesome, but none of that stuff has happend. Im just so scared. Please tell me what you know.

This is such a personal question, and by that I mean that I believe each person sees God in different ways. I, myself, was raised Roman Catholic. I was an alter server, and a cantor in choir, and I taught CCD and Sunday School. When I turned 14, I decided to stop going, because of mostly political Christian things I didn't fancy. I believe in gay marriages and I think that people should be able to go to church with piercings, tattoos, and leather, and not be judged. I don't believe we should have to tell a priest our sins, because I believe that God sees into our hearts and knows our pain and if we are truly sorry. I think that the church as a whole is more judgmental than it should be given Jesus's teachings.

But none of this has to do with how I perceive God, or His love, or the faith I have in Him. And most of the time, I don't even think of Him in that context. I look around me and I just see something that was created, something amazing, and that just astounds my soul. I don’t believe that we will see those “Acts of God” present in the bible if we pray for them because that would be asking for proof, and that’s the entire opposite of what faith is. Faith is not needing proof and believing anyway. I think it’s the moments and emotions we’ll see and feel when we give in to that faith that are the true Acts of God. The bible is a wonderful book full of faith, and it's inspiring, but just look around you for a moment. See how beautiful and amazing the world is and how it has grown. See the people that need help and be KIND and make a DIFFERENCE. Find something to strive for to make your world even better, because something has given us the ability to do that, and we should take advantage of it in every moment of every day.

It makes sense to be afraid of dying, because what happens after is unknown. We all are scared of the unknown, and if we knew what happens after our lives end, we wouldn't strive to live so powerfully. In my mind, the point of life is to just make the best of it. I know that sounds sappy and vague, but really think about it. When we die, we're not going to care about the things we have, or how many hours we worked. We're going to be thinking of those we love, and the lives we have touched and changed. In this day and age, that makes most people think of celebrities and famous people, but it's less than that and a whole lot more at the same time. If you can change one life for the better, if you can make someone grateful just for your words or actions, then that fear of death won’t be nearly as terrifying, because it's not the point. The point is to LIVE and not just survive. Make a difference. Change someone’s life. Give someone hope.

Go outside and look around. Life is everywhere. It’s in nature, it’s in people, it’s in problems, and it’s in overcoming them. Life isn’t about fear, and if you are afraid of death, then don’t waste time. Live not just for today, but for other people’s tomorrows.

It's faith. No one can prove to you that God exists. Like Rahzie said, no one can prove a lot of things.

I do personally believe in God. If you do read the Bible, you'll see God won't be mad that you're questioning him. Even the best Christians will question God.

It's fine to be afraid of dying. That's natural. But at some point you need to not be so afraid and come to accept that everyone will die someday. You can't live your life in fear.

You can't expect things to happen in the Bible to happen here. It's a different life we're living so God will show you in a different way. A more practical way.

Honestly, you don't need Him to show you some big way that he's real. You pretty much need to have faith.

Anyways, in the end, none of us can tell you if God is real or not. Some people believe, some people don't.
I think a good way to find out what you believe is to learn more. Don't just sit there and question it and simply look for other people to tell you the answer. Read the Bible, ask your pastor questions, pray and figure things out.

There are really smart people who have devoted their lives to exploring that question, and have come up with wildly different answers.

No one can prove God exists in the same way we can prove that Advil reduces pain, or that the moon revolves around the earth. There is just no evidence like that. It's a matter of faith, and a matter of opinion.

You could read thousands of different opinions on the subject, and still not be sure what you believe is true.

And that's okay. If any sort of God does exist, and is angry when people doubt that, then God is an asshole who hates everyone, 'cause everyone doubts some, if not most, of the time. If there is anything even remotely like a God or gods (and personally, I don't accept that there is) then it/they are probably not assholes who hate us all for doubting it.

This is what I know: Life is scary. It's scary whether you believe in God or not. Regardless of what you believe, you have to find ways to be at peace in the world, even when it's scary.

It's okay to be scared. It's okay to have questions and to be looking for answers. Both of those things are great and smart ways to be. It's not worth wasting your time stressing about things you can't be sure of. Make your choices, keep thinking and keep trying to be good. God or no God, you can be okay, even great.

Let me start by saying that your question is of the type a grandparent might answer if asked. Since I am of that age I will answer as I would if one of my grandchildren asked this question of me.

First I would tell you to relax your normal. You are 13 it is at this age that young people truly start to question themselves and things.

Is there a god? I would say that depends on your definition and religious background. I and my family are not very religious though we do believe in a higher power. For lack of another term we call that power GOD.

The Bible is a wonderful book. It also can be viewed as a compilation of many stories, or folk law. A historical writing of the past. Each of the recognized religions on earth have their own version of the bible. There's Curran, the Book of David and the King James version to name just 3. One might think if the Bible were the word of God there would be only one version; not many versions to meet the different religions. Still whichever version you follow it is a great book to live by.

Being scared of dying. You cannot go through life being scared of your shadow. Yes there are something's you can do or shouldn't do to keep yourself from dying before your time. Still some of us will die young and some of us will die old and frail.

You should live your life as you are meant to. We each take a certain amount of calculate risk in life. Be it in business or for fun. What we should not do is live in fear of risk for fear itself can be your undoing. So enjoy life for you only get one chance at life, as far as we know, so live life to the fullest you can.

Right now your role in life is secured by the security your parents provide. Your are meant to enjoy teenage life. To do things teenagers do which also prepares you to become an adult and enter society as contributing member of society.

Part of being a teenager is of course honoring your parents, getting good grades in school and completing your education for the field you wish to follow in life. This would mean going on to college or a proper school to learn your trade.

I will go so far as to tell you that your parents and grandparents are there to support you in every sense of the word. They have the knowledge you need when you need it. There is nothing that should be too embarrassing that you cannot go to one of them and ask about and that includes sex and your sexual reproductive system. It is best to ask from someone who knows then from someone who like you is trying to find out.

Your mom, grandmother, Aunt and possibly older sister are the best sources for information on how your body works. After all they have bodies that work just like yours.

Being scared to ask a question or to do something you think is okay to do is not only non productive it is self-defeating. That is no way to live a life. IK realize this is easy to say and harder to do. If this becomes a real problem than ask your parents to find a psychologist who can help you get to the real cause which I will assume has deeper roots than what we are talking about here.

I know this won't quite be what you are looking for, but: No one is positive whether or not God exists. It depends on your religion, beliefs or morals. Personally, I believe in God but I don't go to church or read the Bible. Go with what feels right. And also, God might not always answer your prayers. God may not exist. Nobody knows these things. If you hear a voice in your head I see three possibilities: 1. You are mentally ill. 2. That is your conscience, telling you right from wrong (listen to it!) Or 3. God is speaking to you. Listen. I recommend you talk to someone you trust, about these things; maybe God. And praying is always good - even if no one is listening. God wont be angry at you. You are asking natural curious questions :)! Sorry I can't help more. Good luck :)
