Personally if I had children I would not hire a babysitter under the age of 21 and they would need a CPR certificate as well as a background check. [ Xui's advice column | Ask Xui A Question ]

You need to be emotionally, mentally and physically capable in order to care for another human being. I'd say the most appropriate age to start would be 13 years old. In Canada, it helps a lot if you have a background police check to verify you have no criminal history, references and First Aid & CPR training. If you are younger, having experience and and a few references under your belt should be perfectly fine. Also, try taking a small course if it is your first time babysitting!
