well being a french speaker, i think both people that also answered this question are wrong. "Shah" "Mo" "Neeh" if that makes sense, when you put it together, it would sound more like shOWmOHnEE, French is a difficult language. I hope I helped. ~Angel

onlyinyourdream is wrong, and missbananafontana is correct.

dictionary.com

Cha·mo·nix [ sham-uh-nee; Fr. sha-maw-nee]
–noun a mountain valley in East France, North of Mont Blanc.

just go to dictionary.com and type in Chamonix in the search bar.

trust me, i use dictionary.com all the time, and it is a godsend.

actually not to be rude.. but the person under me is incorrect

in french you NEVER pronouce your "H"'s

so it is sar - mo - nee

and it doesn't mean anything... it is a place, it doesn't have a meaning

Ha. It's not a word, it's a place. It's a valley in Eastern France, north of Mt. Blanc. It's pronounced shah-moe-nee.

EDIT:
I am disappointed in only a three. My answer was correct and I don't understand why I have this rating. : ( ?????
