Grammar

Question Posted Saturday January 10 2004, 6:58 am

Has everyone who posts here forgotten the basic rules of grammer?

Do they not know how to turn off CAPS LOCK?

Do they not know how to capitalise the letter I?

I refuse to answer any question that is unreadable because the author cannot be bothered to write properly.

Stop putting people down. People can be people. And if you want to be judgemental learn how to spell!

I work as an editor online. What I really get tired of is: This is the Greatest Website Ever. It's Full of Really Great Content. Geared to People Who Come to this Website...

It's a real nuisance to go back and uncap every other word. I usually just delete them all and write my own extremely short version. If you can't take the time to make yourself clear than obviously you aren't interested in getting help.

I agree. I don't like to see questions (or ANYTHING, for that matter) written like THIS:

OMG this 1 guy came up 2 mee and he was lyke yo! wana go out wit me? haha cool! so like do i kizz him or wut?

Or stupid stuff like that, where you can tell they didn't put much effort or thought into it and didn't bother to try.

I'm sure if they were typing really fast trying to get something out of their head as fast as possible, I can understand the occasional, small typos. Then again they could put a note on the end, like (Sorry 'bout all the typos--typing too fast!) or something like that.

But I'm gifted when it comes to typing correctly, sometimes I just don't choose my words correctly (like accidentally skipping 'an' or another small word like 'is' in sentences).

(Off-topic...but hey spacefemmers! Disturbed Ox, is I, I is...)(Oh...wait...aren't most of you spacefemmers, anyhow?)

I can cope with the occasional typo-I make them myself-but I don't want to put effort into advising people who don't make the effort to post properly.

No shit.

This site has gone to shit rather quickly. Sadly, it looks like the questions in general need moderated heavily.

That, or we need to start a man-hunt on stupid people.

Yeah, good point. It's also quite annoying when someone posts about nine thousand times in a row.
To me, the lack of grammar and capitalization in a post signifies that the post's author doesn't really care. Tip to anyone who wants good advice: look like you spent some time thinking about your question. People will spend more time thinking of good answers for you. ^_^

You spelled "grammar" as "grammer". :P

That is a good rule to follow. It's hard enough to give good advice without having to interpret something that has not been formatted decently.
