so after watching tv today, i saw a slew of comercials that were the final straw. i've had enough of the idea that sex and stars sell...so i'm going to ween myself off pepsi and coke, m&m's and lays, colgate and oral-b, and go for non-commercial stuff...not because i think it's really going to make a difference...but just so i have a clear concience or w/e...so living in a small town, what is there for me to buy? i'll probably end up eating healthier, since there's really only healthy food here that isn't comericalized with all that shit...so suggestions on what i can do for food, without traveling, and without freeking out my parents would be nice...thanks
oh and i guess it's possible i'm going a bit over board, but i do that...did that with carl's jr. and one of their commercials too...ya...

None of them are highly advertised or use sex to sell them. They are strictly for people who care about the enviroment and animals. I'll bet you could find a few things you might be interested in. Here is a site: veganessentials.com
It mainly just depends on what type of stuff you wanna buy (food, makeup, watches, clothes, ect.) If you want more sites or companies, feel completly free to ask another question in my inbox. I would be very happy to help. :) [ musicbox379's advice column | Ask musicbox379 A Question ]
jokerzgrl answered Wednesday August 11 2004, 12:36 pm: i don't think your going overboard. i whole-heartedly agree that these corporate fiends are taking way too much advantage of us, just cuz they think they can! I don't wanna see Britney Spear's tush adverstisng for Cola! She probably doesn't even drink Cola! *ahem!* let me calm down...woooo-sah! Is there a family dollar anywhere near you, or any dollar store. And if you want to eat healthier, you could probably grow your own food, depending on the weather, but it works better if you have more people on your side, and i for one am on your side.
Much Love,

What to eat? Do you like fresh fruits and veggies? Bonus points for getting them from local organic (or pesticide free) farmers at like say, a farmers market. :) Salad is good.
Most things bought from a store that specializes in "health" foods or special diets are from companies too small to do major advertising - although companies like "Morning Star Farms" are owned by the same guys as "Kellogs". And read the label - it may not be any healthier just cuz the store sells lots of pills. :)
Personally, I think your parents would be thrilled if you ate more fruits, veggies, and salads. Although you would have to be careful if you wanted to eat only fruits and veggies - and learn about vegan diets.
timmain answered Wednesday October 22 2003, 11:00 am: Buy generic brands. No matter how small your town is, there should be generics available. They're cheaper because they don't advertise at all, let alone use sex. Kudos to you for boycotting! [ timmain's advice column | Ask timmain A Question ]

And your own car?
And your own computer?
It would be really hard not to live off of all of the things that are overly commercialized, but I don't imagine it would be much fun. More simplistic, yes...
