It always helps me the most to really chunk my lines together, if that makes any sense. It especially helps for monologues. Memorize a few lines, get those down, and then add in some more, and some more, and then finally all you have to do is add smooth transitions.
Don't read your lines for too long. And I know that sounds really odd...but perhaps look over them in the morning when you first wake up. Then again during math class when your teacher is talking about graphing and analyzing quadratic equations and you don't give a shit. Then maybe again when you get home from school and you're eating a small snack. And then, right before bedtime. That way, you are constantly picking them up and jogging your memory.
Also, in a play, and I know this sounds crazy for memorizing just your own lines, but read the play many, many, many, times, NOT JUST YOUR LINES! That way, if there ever is a slip up with your lines, you will know the play so well that you could improvise for a short period.
Break a leg! :-)

I'm a dancer. Ummm...10th year...shit,or is it 11th year in ballet? (It's one of those. But the number is still kinda up there.) 5th year in pointe. I took tap for like 8 years. Tried lyrical for 2 years. And Character for 1 year. I'd be happy to answer any of your questions or anything.

The only show I have seen on Broadway is Hairspray. That was excellant. I hear Wicked and Rent are also very good though.

Q: My school is doing Aresnic and Old Lace, and I am playing Elaine. We will be doing some "stage-kissing" and I don't know what they mean by that. Could someone explain this technique?

The director will just set you at an angle that to the audience looks like you two are kissing when you lean close. So basically you are going through the movements, you just aren't kissing him.

Q: I am a theater freak. Recently I tried out for the play 'Aladdin'. But, I found out today I didn't get the part I want, and I got a small part instead. All my friends got cool parts like the Genie, Aladdin, Jasmine, the main parts. I feel really rejecting, I've never got rejected from a part I wanted before...

I wish our school did cool plays like Aladdin. Last year we did The Wizard of Oz.I was Glinda the good witch.I wasn't a huge part but I understand why I didn't recieve the part of Dorthy you know?Mainly because of my height but thats beside the point. If you are really serious about theater try joining a class to improve your skills.I bet Julia Roberts didn't get every part she tried out for.So don't let your small part bring you down. You still are part of the production and there is always next year.I will close with a quote from Shakespear I am sure you have heard a million times....'There are no small parts, only small actors.'

Q: whenever i sing or act in a large group of ppl i dont, i get so scared i wanna cry. how do i get over being scared?

I used to be just like that.My audition for like my first "real" play in school I was so nervous I actually DID cry.Not loud enough that everyone knew but it was sill pretty bad.Turns out I got the part. And it was that year that I decided that I wanted to be an actress. And so the point to my little story is you just have practice and do it a lot after you get used to it you may eventually like it.If that doesn't work then I advise you never to go into public speaking or being a preformer as a career. So just be confident and comfortable on stage...or where ever.
