It's not stupid at all hun! I get the same way soo much. Everytime i watch a movie with lovers in it, i get all giddy. I wish it were me + i want a relationship like that.
Then i wake up, and snap back to reality. lol. Things just aren't like that in the real world- well not very often. You just have to realize that movies ARE fake, and people write them.. they want people to feel this way.

Why is it that your friends hate her? This sounds to me like they're jealous because you've got a girl, not only a girl, but an OLDER girl comin' after you ;) lol. they both really liked eachother, and talked TONS online, but not really often at school. They both aren't really shy people, but they become shy around eachother; and everyone always made fun of her.. just saying things like why bother going out with him if they didn't even talk and stuff.
All i can say is, do what she did. Get one of your close friends, and one of his friends. And hang out, just the 4 of you. I hung out with them, and her bfs best friend abouut 8 or 9 times.. just doing random fun stuff.. like. the movies, go karting, swimming or just going for a walk. And eventually, because you would've been outgoing because you had your best friend there, you'll open up to him as well. Soon enough, you'll both come around and start hanging out just the two of you, she did ;) He would even be at her house til 3am sometimes!! hehe.
