Q: I have had this song stuck in my head for a while now and I completely forgot who it's by. I only know the very beginning lyrics, and I've search them on google and a few other sites already, but I still can't find it. The very beginning is "one chick, one love, how many times do we watch you crumble." Who sings this?

Considering the absolute mess of nonsensical lyrics in popular music today, it is almost impossible to determine a song's identity from one mediocre line. If, however, you can perhaps disclose what genre of music it classifies as, and remember more of the lyrics, someone can be of assistance.

These generic sounding band acronyms might be nice. I at least recognize AFI.
However, would you like true, honest good music? I can help there. Rock if rock is your flavor of preference and can't find anything that suits your taste buds from today's era, look back in time, maybe to the 90's, a decade not far gone.
Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind (self-titled debut)
Practically a collection of hits.
Weezer - The Blue Album (actually a self-titled debut, too)
Some of the catchiest melodies you will ever hear.
This might be a stretch for rock, but...
Ben Folds Five - any of their three albums, really.
Piano rock. It's hard to describe, but absolutely worth a listen.
90's music had to have been influenced by something, right? If you get curious, look into these albums, which are amongst the best ever created.
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
Some think of it as the masterpiece of popular music. It actually directly influenced the creation of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band by the Beatles (Look into that one, too)
The Who - Tommy
The first real rock opera. An example of a concept album, where someone puts the album as a whole over the importance of a single. No one as attempted anything like this in a long, long time.
All this is just a small snippet of things that I like. The best way to find great music is to ask people you know what they're listening to. All different kinds of people too. Hope I helped.

My Best Friend by Weezer, from the album Make Believe.
Weezer has a slew of great stuff. I highly suggest their self-titled debut (Also known as the blue album) and Pinkerton.

Q: Is there any program that takes the vocals out of songs? I'm trying to make a cd of karaoke songs (and don't tell me to just go out and buy one because I won't EVER find the songs I want on a karaoke cd). If there is a program, is there a place I can download it?
Thanks so much!

There really isn't an easy and effective way to do it by yourself. By adjusting the levels of the music to neutralize it you're going to greatly affect the sound of the song. The professional way it is done (without re-recording) is finding the frequency at which the vocals were recorded and eliminating that- needless to say, it is not easy, nor is it something that can really be done at home. However, if you can adjust the levels to minimalize the vocals, you may be able to use it just as well as a karaoke track by singing out over it.

Q: This may be an weird question but since I can't sing very well I was wondering if when a person is good at singing is it because they are just born that way and can sing to anything or whether you can only sing to songs your voice is suited to. I wanna be able to sing so badly but I'm not that crash hot so I was just wondering if there is any hope for me?! 16/f

Your voice is a musical instrument, and like all other instruments, some people are prodigies. However, even if you are born without any sort of ability, it can be learned to a certain extent. It's tricky.

The only song I know that says love that many times in a row is "Roller Coaster of Love" by the Ohio Players, but probably more well known these days as covered by the Red Hot Chili Peppers for the Beavis and Butthead Do America soundtrack.

It takes patience more than anything else.
Try imitating someone first. Get you feet wet by trying to sound like someone else. I kind of did it with Weezer for a while and I started to notice little intricacies of songwriting and soloing in specific keys. And with these in mind I learned other groups songs, and amassed a little more knowledge. Throughout all this I was writing little licks and progressions, and recording all of them on a tape recorder (Do it. Just do it. Record or write down any riffs or melodies you think you might want to use, otherwise you'll forget.)
I had always really liked my lyrics, but finally I just started nailing it. My problem was the melody- it never flowed right, just like you said. After observing how others had done it I can of started to get a little bit of an instinct for it and my songs started to work. And they improved pretty damn fast.
There isn't one correct way to write a song. There are super-personal songs, like Iris for example, and then you've got something like "Give ti Away" by the RHCP that isn't really about much, it just flows like a mofo and rocks. Try everything and see what you feel comfortable doing. I've always thought that you can't force songwriting. You can't just conjure meaningful lyrics out of nowhere, you have to feel them, or have a cohesive concept behind the song. It can be tough. And remember, 90% of writing is revision.
Hope I helped. Best of luck!

Q: when you're planning on telling a boy you love him, and it's during a slow song, what song should it be?

I really want to help, because this is awesome. First off: something he really likes to listen to. He'll already be happy for the music, and it'll be that much more memorable afterwards.
But I'll throw in a few suggestions of my own.
Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls is always nice, because it's one of the greatest songs ever. And it has that vibe.
Maybe "Motorcycle Drive By", by Third Eye Blind?
Jack Johnson has TONS of slowly paced, laid back songs. "Do You Remember" by him might be cool.
You could always go with Stairway to Heaven. Damn, if someone told me they loved me during that, I would never forget, just because.
And you can always look to some old standards, like Sinatra, or if you're really cool you'll use "As Time Goes By" - the Louis Armstrong version.

Q: Recently, I've thought about trying to learn the guitar. I don't really know anything about guitars but I also play the clarinet. Does knowing how to read that kind of music help in reading guitar music? And is it really hard to learn it when first starting out?
