about

♥♥♥♥♥♥
The name is Leah. I live in Cincinnati, OH. I really love to give advice! I have been here since November of 2004. But prior to joining here, I was always been seeked for advice. Still to this day, my primary concern is always helping someone out in need.

I am likely not the best columnist here, but I can quarantee I am very dedicated and concerned when I answer a question. If I answer a question you're not satisfied with, I will ask why, so I can try my best to change my answer. I only give people information that I know; not information that I might know. And if I notice a columnist giving you a wrong answer, you'll know I'll be correcting their response!!

I do allow everyone and anyone to ask a question. I may have listed favorite categories, but I really have no preference. I do love making new friends!! It's no problem to contact me by e-mail or IM. I do have a Myspace, and I will gladly give it out if asked! If you ever need advice, if you feel like ending it all, if you feel like no one cares, I am here!! Talk to me.. I will listen and I will help you!!

advice

I want to go counciling but I'm not sure of how because
1. I have no idea where one even is
2. I don't know which kind because I can go to so many differnet ones, anger, theripist, family
3. the BIG ONE is that I don't want my family to know. for sure they won't let me go and they'll say "why you need to go?! just tell us if you have a problem!" not in a comforting way because my parents are very mean and stuff and if i tell them about my problems then they won't make it better or comfort me. they'll just yell at me and call me stupid.
any ideas?

I used to be in the same spot where you were. I was having really tough problems and I didn't know what step to take. So my friends helped me out.

For counseling locations, there are many free counseling spots locally. Do you go to school? If so, [hopefully] your school offers a free counseling program. They are very awesome people. They keep your information confidential while trying to help you through some stuff.

For the kind of counselor it really varies. If you just want a general one, child psychologists and school counselors do general counseling. That is where you should first go anyway. If they feel you need to go to a specific one, they'll take you to one.

And my parents were the same way, as well. I wanted counseling but my parents were not supportive of me having one, but I went to one anyway because I knew I really needed one, and I needed help. They did contact my parents, and as I felt scared, things went OK. And they told me it's mandatory they support you or they could get arrested for that, not just because they didn't see the signs and not take you to one, but because they didn't support the idea when you really needed it and refused to refer you to one. That's almost like being sick from something serious and not go to the Doctor's for it because your parents felt you didn't need a Doctor visit. That kind of thing is police business.

Please go with your gut instinct and go to a school counseler or contact one from the yellow book. They will evaluate you and recommend more counseling and/or medication, depending on the severity of your mental health. And they may have to involve your parents, but it's mandatory and important. If they refuse, they can suffer consequences. And they are being bad parents for not supporting you, so prove to them you need a counselor.

It's ok to feel afraid because I cried when I went to one, and found out my parents had to be involved, but the counselors convinced them this was for the best, and I needed it (after evaluating me).

And you don't need your parents' consent to see one. You can go to one with your own free will. School counselors help out even if parents dissaprove. So it will be for the best at the end.

Good luck =]
