Hey. My boyfriend just got me a ring and I wanted to check and see if it is real silver and/or diamonds. Does anyone here know a way to check without getting it appraised? Like a self check? I will rate high! Thanks!
Wear it constantly for a few days, on most cheap rings, a ring of green-ish or grey-ish tarnish [don't worry, it's harmless] will appear on your finger where the ring was.
For diamonds,real diamonds are almost indestructible. They shouldn't scratch and definitely shouldn't chip. Take a look at the setting [how the diamond is attatched to the silver] as well. If it's very loose or poorly crafted, it's most likely fake.
