Jewelry check... Hey. My boyfriend just got me a ring and I wanted to check and see if it is real silver and/or diamonds. Does anyone here know a way to check without getting it appraised? Like a self check? I will rate high! Thanks!

Real silver tends to be marked with numbers on the inside of the ring, as a sort of method to identify if it is real silver.
Real diamonds are the strongest material known to man. If you try getting a rough corner of the diamond and scraping it down some glass, if it can mark the glass, it's a real diamond.
Of course, if you don't want to risk ruining your best glassware, you could also take it to a jeweller, who would be able to confirm if it is real diamond or not. ]
Wear it constantly for a few days, on most cheap rings, a ring of green-ish or grey-ish tarnish [don't worry, it's harmless] will appear on your finger where the ring was.
For diamonds, real diamonds are almost indestructible. They shouldn't scratch and definitely shouldn't chip. Take a look at the setting [how the diamond is attatched to the silver] as well. If it's very loose or poorly crafted, it's most likely fake. ]
