Can anyone tell me a personal experience they've had with dealing with tolerance? Why is it important to be tolerant of others? The reason I'm asking this question is because I have to write an essay and I would like your input on this so I can include it in my examples. All 5's to anyone who give serious, thoughtful answers. well, to me tolerance is the ability to accept a person's right to existence no matter what they're like and how much you may dislike their actions. you don't have to like them, but you have to accept them the way they are. one who's tolerent of others doesn't hate anyone and doesn't hold any prejudices based on any external characteristics, but bases his or her judgement of that person based directly on their behavior. if their judgement of the person is negative, they don't act towards them in a negative way, but they don't pretend to like them either.

i always try to turn my negative feelings toward some people into tolerance, accepting that although i might not be able to see or value enough this person's virtues, it doesn't mean that they don't have them or that i don't have any faults of my own.
