Hi There,
I think you should try to get to know him a little better first. Try hanging out with him some more and ask for his number. Test the water first and try to see whether he is interested or not.
If you feel that he is interested, then by all means ask him out. If you are too shy to ask him yourself, then perhaps you could get a friend to do it for you. If he says no, then don't feel awkward about it...perhaps a good friendship can come out of it :)
