arlight.. I was just curious..how can you really tell the difference between spotting and your period? my boyfriend& I are sexualy active..we always use a condom..and I was just put on birth control a few days ago. I'm using Estrostep, and doing the one day starter, meaning I started taking the pill the day I got my period& so forth. I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative..but I know they aren't 100% accurate..also, there is only alot of blood when I wake up in the morning, but during the day there's barely any..

1. am I spotting from the birth control or is it just a really light flow because of the birth control?

2. how can you tell the main difference between a really light flow and spotting? would spotting just be little drops?

sorry this was long:D thanks in advance!

birth control usually doesn't fully work on your periods until after your first month of pills. so, your period being light is most likely not from you just being put on birth control.

it's good that you use a condom, but just remember that even though you're on BC now, it's always safer to keep using a condom.

spotting is usually darker, and only a little bit of blood. a light flow would be a decent amount of blood. enough to tell it's your period, at least. all girls' flows are different, so it's hard to tell you exactly what to expect. it really depends on your body, and the nutrients and stuff it has. if you're really active, you might have a lessened period as well.

the only way you can know for sure is to talk to the doctor that prescribed your birth control. they will be able to talk about your menstrual flow and what you can expect.. how long it takes to affect your flow.. etc.

hope i helped. :) drop one in my inbox if you need to.
