Why did I choose the username Nyx? Nyx is the ancient goddess of Night in Greek mythology, daughter of Chaos. She is a primal ancestress, and mother of many deities by Her brother Erebus (Darkness). Her children are for the most part dark sorts and include the Moerae (the three Fates), Nemesis (justice and divine retribution), winged Hypnos (Sleep) and His brother Thanatos (Death), Moros (Doom), the Keres, goddesses of violent death, Oizys (Misery), the Hesperides who guarded the golden apples, Deceit, Friendship, Old Age and Eris(Discord).

She was depicted as riding in a chariot, trailing stars and bringing the night, and accompaied by Her sons Hypnos and Thanatos. She could be helpful or harmful to mankind, bringing either sleep or death. Nyx had prophetic powers, and gave them to oracles from a cave. She was older and more powerful than Zeus, who deferred to Her wishes.

I don't mean to bash the religion, but I'm sick of it. I live in Utah, so I'm surrounded by it. And everyone is always bringing up that the religion should be more a part of the school. Well, I don't believe in any of it. Personally, I think their religion was just founded on Joseph Smith trying to steal other men's wives and get away with it. And they have a class here. How do they get away with having a religiously oriented class in a public school, isn't that infringing on the separation of church and state clause? My question is how do I deal with all of this religion when I don't want it, especially since all the guys that I could date are mormon?

Sweetie... I know EXACTLY how you feel. I used to live in Minnesota, and I'm a Wiccan. I moved to Idaho(near Pocatello, where the percentage rate of Mormons is higher than Salt Lake even!), and I had to deal with all that crap.

How can they get away with offering Mormon Seminary as credits? Because the state government is all mormon as well. Utah and Idaho are the ONLY states that can pull that kind of crap. Here's a little story about my experience in school...

I was told by the Vice-Principal of our 99% Mormon school(who btw wanted to be called Brother Bonnie) to take of my pentacle because 'We dont worship the devil here'. I calmly replied with,"Have you heard of the first amendment? I have the freedom to express myself." He then asked if I heard of seperation-of-church-and-state. I got a little more upset, and told him that he wasn't doing a good job of that, as he offers mormon classes as credits, has a mormon school/church on school grounds, and allowed students to try to convert others in the hallways. He didn't know what to say, but still told me to take off my necklace. So I hottly remarked,"M'kay... well... I'll make a deal with you. I'll take off my necklace, if you take off every CTR ring, and cross necklace in this school." He was so upset, he didn't say anything, and just left. He always managed to steal Wiccan books from my friends(which I let them borrow). And I was constantly called into his office, where he said that he should keep them. I told him he'd need to pay me $30 for the book then. And I explained my friends situation, that there was no homework, and the teacher was at her desk, and there were other students doing non-school related activities as well, and so the book should not have been taken. He always got mad at me... he got his revenge on one of the last days of school by giving me In School Suspension when I skipped on Senior Skip Day. I proudly wore my necklace to graduation to show it off to him.

You can't beat them... trust me, I've tried. But definatly don't join them. If you look hard enough you'll find a guy who isn't Mormon to date.
