Do you think horoscopes are true in any way? (link)
|
No.
People aren't destined to be born in certain months, and people born in certain months don't share specific characteristics.
People invented months. It is not like there were months when Adam and Eve were here. Someone had to come up with the idea. So months aren't natural, and neither are horoscopes because they are based on months.
If people born in January are not selfish [according to horoscopes], then that would mean that not a single person born in January is selfish. Is that logically true? No.

Hello, I am 6'4 295 pounds and 19 years old.
I really have just been sitting for the past few years gaining weight without really paying attention.. But as I realize how terrible it is for me to be 295 pounds at 19.
I need some good advice to take off the weight.
Also, what would be a target weight for someone of my height?
A little background :
I used to drink 12 packs of mountaindew every other day, have regular flavored taco chips at least 3 times a week and eat lots of white flour products. I stopped drinking soda about 7 months ago and have a can once or twice a month now.
I have cut out white flour within the last two months.
I have been a vegetarion all my life up until recently, Now I don't eat any animal products except for omega3 free range eggs.
I have freetime up the yinyang and am ready to do ANYTHING you have to suggest, I have a treadmill capable of upto 10MPH and a weight set with upto 300Lbs of weight already. (link)
|
Exercise for one hour a day nonstop [i.e., walking, running, swimming, bikeriding, etc.].
Cut down on the amount of food that you eat. Don't stop eating, but cut your meals in half. If you usually have a plate of salad for dinner, have half of a plate from now on. The amount of calories you have will drop dramatically, and you will still be eating foods you enjoy.
Don't eat after 6 pm. If you do, you will not lose any weight while you sleep.
Add celery and/or asparagus to your diet. They actually help take calories out of your system.
Don't drink anything except water or flavored water. Not only does water not have any calories, but it cleans out your digestive system.
Good luck. =]

i have smoked pot a couple of time....and cigerettes. my mom and dad know about the cigerettes...but not the pot. do i need to talk to someone about my problem....or should it phase? (link)
|
Don't tell anyone about your problem.
Many of my friends smoke pot. They say that it's not as addictive or harmful as cigarettes. I don't know if they know what they're talking about, though.
Anyways, just try to stop doing it. We receive so much education about drugs starting in elementary school. So how could anyone ever try drugs when they learn at about age 8 how bad they are?
Drugs can control your life if you don't stop the habit now.

I've been reading alot of questions on here about "group homes" and I haven't answered any yet because I'm not sure what a 'group home' is. So if someone would tell me.. that'd be great!

I'm pretty sure a group home is when more than one family lives in one home/apartment.

~~~~~A guy often thinks about the girl who likes him. But this doesn't mean that the guy likes her~~~~~
I read this somewhere, and really want to know if this is true or false.
So, is it true or not?
(link)
|
In my opinion, it is true.
Guys think about the girls who like them to decide whether they like the girl back or not.
Don't believe everything you read. Those romantic quotes in AIM profiles and on MySpace are usually false and unrealistic.
Okay so there is this teacher at school who I really like. Shes like punk rock-emo even though shes in her fifties. Heh. Anyways, like some days she is extremely funny and bubbly and happy and the the next day she will be totally crazy and stressed, almost to the point where she scares us. She will start yelling at us and blaming all of her problems and stuff on us. Anyways I was just wondering, could this be a sign of like bipolar disorder or some other disorder? Like, I dont want to pry into her personal life, but I want to know if we are making her mad or if it is some kind of thing she cant control. (link)
|
Yes, it could be a sign of bipolar disorder or Multiple Personality Syndrome. However, she is probably just an average person who, like everyone else, has mood swings.
Believe it or not, adults go through a lot of stress and have a lot of pressure placed upon them. Their deadlines aren't like yours. They can't turn in their work a day late for half credit. It's either turned in on time or useless. Also, on homework assignments, if you make a mistake, you will probably still get a good grade. However, at work, points aren't taken off: it's either completely perfect or completely wrong. This causes stress and frustration among most adults, and you will probably experience it yourself someday.
I hope I helped.
Okay i was taught that anyhting with seeds are fruits: examples: apples, oranges, kiwi, tomato(it is a fruit!) etc. and the foods without seeds are vegetables: brocolli, celery, zuchinni..etc. Is this right?
So then is a pickle a fruit?\IDK! (link)
|
Technically, pickles are vegetables. However, they are so high in sodium that most consider them condiments.
Yes, generally foods with seeds are fruits, but there are exceptions to almost everything.
I am very confused about my political standpoint, but it is something that i need to decide on. How do i know if i am a republican or democrat? Are democrats the same as liberals? Are republicans conservative? How do I determine which one I am. (link)
|
These are some general facts about liberals and conservatives. Again, these are GENERAL. Not all liberals believe everything listed under "liberals", and the same goes with conservatives. But for the most part, they are true.
Liberals: want to share the wealth of the country equally [communism]. In theory, communism is perfect, but in reality, it does not work simply because people are not willing to achieve anything because their income will be the same regardless of their occupation. They want change. They show tolerance of others' beliefs [i.e., religion, sexual orientation,etc.]
Conservatives: believe that if you work hard enough, you will become successful and therefore make more money [capitalism]. The United States is a capitalist country. Capitalist countries are not perfect because there will always be people less fortunate and successful than others. Conservatives also want government to not interfere with business-related affairs.
15/M My locker is next to someone who has some bisexual friends. There are 2 of them. The other day when school was over, one of them was like, hitting on me and saying that I'm cute and sexy and stuff like that. I'm straight, so I got a little freaked out. I am used to getting that from girls, but I'd never had someone who's gay do that before. The kid is pretty proud of be bi, too. He wears shirts that say stuff like "Don't hate, celebrate," and "Gay pride." He also wears rainbow-colored shirts and he wears make-up and acts and sounds very feminine. So it's not like he's trying to hide anything. Anyway, the other day when he did that, I got all mad and called him a fag, queerbag, and other derogatory words and yelled at him. And then, yesterday, he was standing in front of my locker, but instead of politely saying excuse me, I said, "get out of my way, you faggot," and then I grabbed him and pushed him out of my way. Then I said, "did you like that when I grabbed you, gay boy." Some of my friends said to go beat him up, but I would never do anything like that. My mom thinks that bisexuality is wrong because she thinks that people should pick to like one or the other. She doesn't hate anyone, and neither am I. I'm not against gay people. But what should I do to deal with this and what should I say to the kid to apologize? When those 2 incidents occured, everyone around was laughing at him and teasing him. I feel bad for him and I felt guilty. The rate of suicide among gay teenagers is high, and I don't want him to commit suicide and then blame me for it. What can I do to get rid of my anger? Is there counseling or anything? (link)
|
You are very small-minded. There is nothing wrong with gay people, or bisexual people for that matter. I know that your friends got a good laugh out of it, but personally, I don't respect you at all, and I'm sure that in the real world, no one else will, either.
The main reason you want to apologize is to not be at fault if he commits suicide. That's kind of selfish. You should want to apologize because you were very hateful to him. Judging other people is not your job, and it is not his job to impress anybody. I hope you remember that.
Oh, and just for future reference, words like "faggot" and "queerbag" are very immature. That just goes to show how limited and disappointing your vocabulary really is.
Every year since the seventh grade I have had one very large problem - School. Now, hey, everyone has a problem with school, but to delve deeper into the subject of school I realize my problem is not directly going there, it's just doing the work.
Throughout my life I have been lazy, I've tried to overcome it and at some points I do, however when I try and do school work I put it off until the last moment.
Studying for a test means 10 minutes of staring at the review and then I say "Okay, I'm done" and move on. Sometimes I do think I'm good to go, but I'm not.
The problem is I don't do my homework sometimes, if I do it, I make sure it is done in a quick and timely manner -meaning it sucks-
This year, my Junior year, is the first time I have ever failed on a report card, even worse, I failed twice.
I realize I have this problem, each year I cut it very close in some of my classes. I'm usually under great stress (though it usually isn't apparent, even to me. Only at certain times does it even really 'get' to me) and when under great stress I can usually pull my grades up. However, without that jumpstart, I don't do the work required.
I realize this, but for some reason I can't become disciplined enough to overcome this terrible problem.
The end of the marking period is once again coming to an end this week, and I'm once again, like usual, I'm cutting it close.
I worry that I will fail, however, I'm not asking "how do I pass my classes with 1 week left?"
I'm asking a broader question which is How do I overcome this problem of putting things off so much?
I fear I've hit rock bottom over the past two years due to the fact that I'm so used to missing turning in an asignment ( Which I usually try to turn them in) that when I dont' have it done I generally just say 'oh well, it's whatever' and blow it off. I've learned to cope with this lazy me, which is also making it much harder to overcome my problem.
Another thing is I have been tested for a.d.d. and I infact do have it. However, I refuse to take my medicine for it. I try to overcome this disability myself (which is also sometimes a problem because I miss out on certain assignments and homework due dates)
Could this pure lazyness I'm experiencing be an effect from my add? I don't think so, but it doesn't help in certain areas.
Are there any techniques I could set up and apply to my daily schedule to improve my work habits?
(link)
|
Hey. Well I'll try to help you.
I kind of have the same problem as you. I'm also a junior, and I have been hard-working in school until this year [all slack classes, if you know what I mean].
Basically, you need to think about your future. If you plan on going to college, then imagine what colleges will think when you have 2 F's on a report card. Even having 2 D's isn't impressive at all. But there is hope, which I will get into later.
Right now, this is what you need to do. Get home from school and work on your homework that takes the shortest time to complete, like a worksheet or bookwork. Make breaks in between the assignment. If there are 20 math problems, do 10 and take a break, or do 5 and take 4 breaks. The breaks should be no longer than 15 minutes.
Then move on to longer assignments, like projects and studying for tests. There are many different ways to study. I know that studying isn't the funnest thing to do, but believe it or not, it's easier than you think. I'm not the smartest person in the world, and I can memorize a full page of information in about 10-20 minutes if I study. Here is how I personally study: I go to the basement, make flashcards, walk around in circles, and talk out loud. Sometimes hearing the information helps more than reading it.
Anyways, if you continue to struggle, and if you plan on going to college, then there is a way to still get an education. Community colleges. Most of them accept anyone who has a high school diploma, so even if your GPA is a 2.0, you will probably be accepted. However, if you plan on transferring to a 4-year college AFTER that, then you need to get good grades and a stronger work ethic while at the community college. (4-year colleges will generally focus more on your college grades than high school grades).
Either way, you need to get your priorities in order. School comes first. Then a part-time job, if you have one, and THEN fun and friends.
Hey, I have a column on advicenators and I frequently ask questions on this site so I'm wondering a few things. The first thing is, is it possible for question askers/other columnists to know who asks a question, like if I asked a question would anyone know it was me? Also, can I ask as many questions as I want, or will I eventually be cut off from asking anymore questions because I've asked too many? Haha I know that's a weird question but I do ask a lot of questions as well as answer a lot of questions so yeah. Thanks! (link)
You can ask as many questions as you like. However, some of your questions may be innappropriate or overused, so they might not be able to be answered.
No one will ever know what questions you ask, except for probably DangerNerd.
I've been dealing with mild acne since age 11. I get blackheads on my nose and small pimples (not whiteheads, just bumps) all over my forhead and chin.
With the level of stress rising in school, I now get more and more pimples spreading to my cheeks, temples, neck, chest, arms, and back. Just a few here and there, but rapidly increasing.
Also, cystic pimples are popping up alot.
I've tried everything from Clean&Clear to AcneFree. ProActive is not choice right now due to money. A dermatolgist cannot happen either.
Does anyone have any sort of mirical worker? (link)
|
Unfortunately, acne cannot be cured. Although there are multiple lotions, creams, and pills available to help limit acne, it can never be cured.
Acne has nothing to do with what you eat. It also has nothing to do with how clean your face is. You could shower once a day or once a week. The amount of acne on your face won't change.
Acne is caused by stress, genetics, or both stress and genetics.
However, there is a program that I am somewhat familiar with called Accutane. Accutane is a pill that you take for 4-6 months, and it is supposed to clear your acne for the rest of your life.
But there is a catch. Accutane is somewhat pricey. It also has multiple side effects: liver damage, birth defects, nosebleeds, dry skin, dry lips, fatigue [tiredness], depression, and possibly suicide. You have to see a dermatologist, too.
So you basically can try any product or method you can think of, but your acne will not go away unless your stress levels go down, your hormones relax, or you get Accutane.
I hope I helped. My friend is taking Accutane and said it's a miracle.
Why is it that guys like lips, mainly pouty lips, so much? My boyfriend told me "pouty lips are sexy" (he told me I had pouty lips). I asked him why he thought they're sexy. He said, "I don't know, they're just a major facial feature"
Thank you :] (link)
|
That's like asking "Why do girls like guys with facial hair?"
Answer: not all girls like facial hair, but a lot do. Same with lips. Not all guys like lips, but some do. It depends on the person. It's stereotypical to say that all guys like pouty lips, and it is simply not true.
Hey Guys,
I live In Belize, or in the caribbean region if you will. But I do not plan on sticking around here long. Here does not have good tertiary level institutions to attend. So I plan on sitting the SAT's and the ACT's . What are thoser exams good for though? How many times can I take them? and are my scores accumulative or not if I take them multiple times? And what level are the exam questions? Is there a site I can go to for information on them? Every little detail you can include that will help me to determine my educational future will be a great help. Thanks. (link)
|
I don't know much about the ACT, but I know a lot about the SAT.
You can take the SAT up to 7 times, I believe. They are not averaged. If you get a low score on your first try and a great score on your second, you can choose to only show colleges the second test results.
The exam questions are pretty difficult. For about 40% of the test, you need to know basic algebra. For about 20% of the test, you need to know English grammar and how to distinguish between what sounds right and what sounds wrong in English. For the final 40% (which is what I find the hardest) is the reading section. You need to have a high level of vocabulary. You also need to be able to read long passages, understand them, and answer questions about them.
All questions are multiple-choice, except for some math questions. If you answer a question right, you get 1 point. If you leave a question blank, you get nothing. If you answer a question wrong, you lose 1/4 of a point. So basically, you should not guess unless you have a good chance of getting the question right.
There is also a new writing section for the SAT. I have not heard a lot about it, though, and I haven't taken it yet.
I hope I helped. Basically study vocabulary and you should do okay.
okay so has anybody ever tried that stuff that supposedly clears acne in just one night? If so, does it work? (link)
|
I have tried it. I have tried almost every product out there.
For me, no, it didn't work. Neither did acne pads, Differin, these acne-pills, or anything.
Of course, you and I have different amounts of oils, so there is a possibility that the product will help you. However, products like this that do not require a prescription or a trip to the dermatologist generally do not work. The same goes with teeth-whitening products, etc.
I hope I helped.
Me and my boyfriend have had sex, but I have never bled and I really don't believe he's popped my cherry... but my period's late. Could I possibly be pregnant even though he hasn't popped it? I'm a 16 year old girl... (link)
If you have sex, you could be pregnant. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
Maybe next time you'll use protection, or better yet, wait til marriage.
i'm a junior in HS. i want to be a psychiatrist. what are some good colleges for that? i dont want to know from a website, i want to know from people who have persued it themselves. i was kinda considering an online college so i can focus more on the work & not the parties & learn at my own pace ... has anyone done that (for psycology) ? thanks for your help =) (link)
|
First of all, just to let you know, most places only consider psychologists with a Master's degree (a 6-year degree) or higher. There are associate's degrees (2-year) and bachelor's degrees (4-year) for psychology, but they will not get you very far.
Now, to your question. It doesn't really matter what college you go to, in my opinion. Yes, there are Ivy League colleges and there are colleges that are in the middle of nowhere, but no one cares where you go. And one college is no better than another.
There are a lot of online colleges available. But I strongly suggest that you do not do that. Not only are online classes more difficult, time-consuming, and expensive than normal classes, but you will not get the full college experience, like Spacefem said.
However, that being said, if you still pursue an online education, I would suggest only taking online classes for the basic core requirements. These include math, science, history, political science, English, and speech. But for all of your psychology classes, please don't take them online. You will be limited to learning about the subject from a textbook, and if you are truly interested in psychology, that shouldn't be enough.
I am not going to lie. There are parties in college. But from what I hear, most parties happen in dorms, so if you want to avoid parties, why not live at home or in an apartment close by? That way, you won't have any distractions.
I hope that I helped. A lot of colleges offer online classes that are not online colleges. You may want to look into that.
Good luck.
my brohter and i were in car accident recently and i was driving and totaled my brand new escalade. my brotehr told the police and our parents that he was hte one driving so i wouldnt get in trouble since i had only had my licnese for a few months and he has had his for about 6 years. i feel horrible about the whole thing. should i tell my parents the truth or just let it be? (link)
|
I highly suggest letting it go. Someone having a car accident 6 years after getting his/her license is common, but having a car accident only months after receiving a license will look irresponsible.
I would, however, strongly suggest that you make it up to your brother, because what he did really saved your you-know-what.
It's really up to you, though. If you experience constant guilt about it, then maybe it would be best to just tell your parents. Otherwise, you probably shouldn't.
