16/f sophomore.

hello :D
okay, well here's my problem. i don't have one PARTICULAR group of friends and my friends are all split in different groups. i, myself, am mixed in all of them. so as you can tell, it's very confusing. and well, most of my friends don't get along with eachother and they talk bad about one another. most of them aren't even friends. but i'm their mutual friend, so their problems with eachother pass through me. and i have to side with people. like for group projects and stuff. and i don't know WHO to side with sometimes. what kind of judgement should one use in this case.....like for instance. friend a, friend b and me were going to the library to do some research. they both hate eachother and talk behind eachother's back to ME and they expect me to choose who i want to go with tomorrow.

i can't do that. i like them both.
ahh, help please?

oh, i hate these situations. they're really tough. the next time one of your friends talks bad about another one, just say, "look, you know that i'm friends with ______, and i don't appreciate that you're talking bad about them." there have been a few times when some of my good friends were fighting and they kept talking bad about each other through me... and i just refused to take a side. i made it clear that it's not any of my business, and that i don't want to hear somebody talk bad about somebody else. when you feel like you have to side with one set of friends- don't. you shouldn't have to choose, and if they are trying to make you choose, then just make it crystal clear that you like both groups the same and that you can't choose. in a group project situation, go join a completely random group. you don't even have to know them that well, but your friends will get the message. as for the library thing, you've got a couple of choices, and none of them involves actually choosing which friend to go with. you can go with them both at the same time and say, "look guys, you really just need to get over this because it's getting old and it's making me not want to be friends with you." or, you can call them both and say, "if you guys can't get along, then i'm going to the library by myself." both of those really get the point across. hopefully your whole situation will get better. i hope i helped :)

hey im a black belt at karate and some people have told me that one you get to black belt your hands are classified as a deadly weapon or something.is any part of this true at all?... just curious.

in some asian countries your hands are considered deadly weapons, and i'm not sure if the same goes for english-speaking countries. i would assume so, but i've also heard that in asian countries you have to register your hands as a weapon.

I was wondering if anyone knew if alcohol was served at all ages shows at the House of Blues? I want to take my sister to the Honda Civic Tour at HOB in Orlando in April, but our parents won't let her go if alcohol is being served. I've been to all ages shows there before, and I don't recall seeing anyone drinking, so I would assume they only serve at shows that are 21+, but I thought I'd ask anyway just to see if anyone knows for sure.
Thanks!

The best way would be for you to call them, but I have been to several all ages shows at the House of Blues where alcohol was served. I am underage, and they would card people, and if they were over 21 they would give a wrist band (or something to that effect). They definitely card you though so it's kind of a safe environment. HOB would lose money if they didn't serve alcohol at all their shows, so I doubt that they wouldn't... however, I am only speaking about the HOB I go to, which isn't in Orlando. Your best bet is to call them and ask about that particular show.

would using it on your face daily give you pimples and oily skin?

a good facial moisturizer (you can browse at the grocery store, but i really like clinique) will not make your skin gross. if you get one that's for your skin type, then it will just replenish your natural oils (or whatever).

I have to do a Research paper and the teacher said we can pick anything we know alot about because we have to write 4 pages. However im not sure at all what to write about. Any ideas?
My friend is doing it on having a baby, her sister expirienced it.

i love picking topics for research papers. pick something that you feel strongly about, no matter what it is. last year in one of my classes we had to do this huge research paper + powerpoint presentation, so i did it on music (but more specifically the legend of the crossroads in blues music). do you have any hobbies, are you interested in any professions? is there something that you really like that your friends may not know about? the reason i chose the topic that i did was because i knew that none of my friends would know about it, but it's an interesting story- and sure enough, after my presentation, my classmates told me that they had learned a lot. if you're presenting this, or if other people might read this, make it something unique that somebody will want to read. it doesn't necessarily have to be about something that you know a lot about- if you can find something that you're even vaguely interested in, then it will be really cool to do a research paper on it. here's what some of my friends have done in the past:

hypnotism
nuclear warfare
the titanic
forensic science
the holocaust
any of the old west outlaws (jesse james)

here are some more controversial topics that you can play around with:

My friend needs help on choosing Latin, French or Spanish, for high school

Spanish-Florida a lot of people know Spanish here

French-A love romantic language she loves lot

Latin-A great language to learn, because it will be easier to learn another language afterwards

I can't help her because we have different opinion on things. Any help please?

Please and Thank You.

i'd say spanish, definitely. is your friend planning on doing something like being a history major, or getting a doctorate? if so, then latin would be useful too... however, she would use spanish way more in daily life since she lives in florida. i live where there are many spanish influences and learning spanish has really helped me. besides that, it's an easy language.

do you wear your bra in the doctor's office?

thanks

yes, dress normally, and if they are going to give you a physical or whatever, they may ask you to remove clothing.

Will God forgive you for everything you do even if its so so so bad you guys dont know how bad it was it was all my fault and I'm afraid God wont forgive me I really want to know if God forgives us for all of our sins and if he does is there such a place as hell?

If you are Christian, then it is in Christian belief that yes, no matter what you do, as long as you repent and ask for forgiveness and accept Jesus as your savior, that you will be forgiven and go to Heaven. None of us can really give you a definite answer though, it all has to do with your personal faith.

Ok so im giving up meat for lent but i need some ideas. i go to a really small school so they don't have much of a variety for food. so i was thinking of packing my lunch i just really need some idea of stuff i could pack for lunch and it cant be kept cold it will be in my locker. Im still new at not eating meat but im still looking for some idea so please help me thank you

-Lindsey

hey there, here's a good link for you:
http://www.wikihow.com/Special:LSearch?fulltext=Search&search=vegetarian

also, since you're not going to be eating meat, you will probably need to make sure that you are taking vitamins or an iron supplement or something. a lot of iron in our diet is supposed to come from meat, and it would suck if you developed an iron deficiency because of lent.

okay well me and this guy have been getting to know each other, we are aquaintances, and i think that he might have a little bit of a crush on me, but he has a girlfriend...so my main question is can you tell me how i can tell if he likes me..?? thank you

hmm, well, since he has a girlfriend... try to put yourself in his girlfriend's shoes. you would probably not be too cool with an "outside" woman... so if they break up, make sure you're not the reason because that only creates problems/drama. i have no doubt that he might have a crush on you, but this isn't a good situation to put yourself in even if he does. so my advice is to, as hard as it may be, stay out of the situation until they break up (it will happen), and then pursue him if you're still interested. as far as signs of a guy liking you, if he would rather hang out with you than his girlfriend... that is a surefire sign.

I think it was Friday, and I was in the tanning bed. I was feeling around my hips, and I felt like a lump. But it moves around. Like first it will be like on my inner hip, but move out to the outer hip. Its right around my hip bone. Its mainly on the inner hip area. But I can move it to the outer. I asked my nursing teacher what it was, and she said she wasn't sure. When I first found it I started crying bc I thought it was cancer. But I really have no idea what it is. I showed my mom, and she said we'll get it checked out. My teacher said she thinks it might be a cyste(spelling)but she's really not sure. Any ideas??

Btw I play basketball, cheerlead, and do gymnastics. If that may help any?

it sounds like a cyst. there's no way you can tell by looking at it if it's cancer (and it is very likely NOT cancer). i actually have a cyst on my right wrist. i don't think your sports really have anything to do with it. go to a doctor and see about it. they'll probably tell you that it's a cyst. you can get it removed, but if it doesn't bother you or severely inhibit your health, then you can just leave it. i've had mine for five years.

hi

i wash my hair everyday
and twice a week i use perscribed dandruff shampoo
even before the dandruff shampoo, my hair had been greasy on at the roots and under-layers.
i always make sure to rinse for about 5 or more minutes with warm water.
i also don't put conditioner on my roots.
i also only comb my hair out after the shower
and in the morning.
AHHH I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE MY HAIR UN-GREASY !
it started becoming greasy around novemberish i think.
i have used paprya shampoo, the cheap ones also, garnier frutese and aussie, but all for normal hair.
i also know i can put baby-powder in my hair but i heard that causes breathing problems.
i don't want to have to put baby powder in my hair though, i want it un-greasy!
so, what can i do to help my hair?

im 14/f also.

thanks for reading this =D

i know this will sound weird, but your hair is probably greasy partly because you wash it so much. try washing it every other day (which will be gross at first, so start it on some random day when nobody will see you). besides that, the fact that you're 14 may have something to do with it- when i was 14 (i'm 16 now) my hair was like yours, but it got a lot better this past year. so it's not going to be like that forever. anyway, i'm pretty sure they make shampoo for oily hair, so you might want to try that. the reason your hair is so greasy after washing it so much is because when you wash it, it takes the natural oils out- so then your scalp tries to replenish tenfold. and it gets gross. for some people, if they wash their hair every day, their hair gets really dry and unhealthy because their scalp can't make enough oil. it's the same concept for your face- if you wash your face three times an hour and it's still greasy, it's trying to replenish the natural oils that it's losing every time you wash it. try not using conditioner a few times. i have a friend who can't/doesn't use conditioner at all and her hair is healthy. yeah, i hope your hair gets better :)

why does a dog throw up blood

dogs aren't supposed to throw up blood. if yours is or has, you need to take it to a vet immediately.

My daughter is in the third grade. We have been having problems the past few years getting her to do good work. Her grades are slipping farther and farther down.

We have tried to work with her with her studies. We have made notecards for her to study. We have also gone through everything with her. We have made flash cards to learn math. She just doesn't do the work at school.

I can't afford to take her to specialty "tutoring" schools. I have tried contacting the local school board about tutors that can help her with her studies. I have done everything imaginable to get her on the right track, but nothing seems to work.

My questions are: how do I help her to get her grades back up? How do I encourage her to do good at school? What could be motivators that could allow her to want to succeed?

I think bribery will work... definitely. Daughters love spending quality time with their moms, so you can tell her that if she makes good grades all week that on Saturday you'll take her out for ice cream (or to a movie, or whatever her choice). That is a great incentive. It would be great if you could keep close contact with her teacher and perhaps get a weekly report, if possible. The fact of the matter is that your daughter won't do well if she doesn't want to do well, so you have to make her really want that. As far as helping her, if she has homework or things to do at home, you could try checking them and going over assignments with her. Even something small, like a little encouragement note in her backpack every day, can really boost her attitude and make her want to do well. It's great that you've already been trying to get her a tutor. A lot of parents don't go to that much trouble for their kids, which is sad. But yes, it's very possible to help your child with even a little bit of motivation. It doesn't even need to be materialistic; like I said, I am 16 and I really value time spent with my mom because I love her. I hope things work out :)

I am a 13 year old girl from Scarborough Ontario Canada.
I'm 150 inches tall which is not that tall for grade 8. I'm looking for stores in my area or on the internet for gr. 8 grad dresses. Do you know any good websites or stores? This is like prom style;e grad where everyone gets dressed up and everything. The dress has to be up to my ankles or longer.

150 inches? that's 12.5 feet...

anyway:

My aunt's getting married in June and her dresses are so totally not even good. We tried our dresses on and I SWEAR it emphasises like every little piece of fat we have on our bodies. And they're a buttercup yellow and I have really dark haie and dark skin, how am I supposed to look good in this dress?

i know this is going to sound bad or something, but you will really just have to deal with it. put yourself in your aunt's shoes- if you picked out bridesmaids dresses that you thought were beautiful, would you want your maids to complain about them? not really. it's your aunt's day... you're not supposed to look better than her. if you're self-conscious about your body, you can always turn some fat into muscle, but other than that, i don't know what to tell you. the best choice, though you're not going to like it, is to just grin and bear it.

Okay so on Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2008) I'm getting 5 baby teeth pulled out. My dentist said he was gonna use novicaine (sp?) and laughing gas. I'm so scared! I don't care about the novicaine, but laughing gas?? Is it supposed to put me to sleep? I'm so nervous I feel like I'll freak out as I'm falling asleep! How does it feel? Do you just get drowsy and eventually fall asleep? Does this mean I'll feel no pain when they yank out the 5 teeth? AHH help me! I don't want to be so scared.

laughing gas is AWESOME. i'm not going to lie... i look forward to it. it's just like being in a dream- you feel light as air, and you could not care less what the doctors are doing. you might feel a little pressure in your mouth when they're pulling the teeth... but really, once they put you on it, within a few minutes you are in the best mood ever and seriously could not care about whatever else is going on. it doesn't put you to sleep... you may fall asleep (like i do), but it's not an actual anesthetic. they put you on the laughing gas before they do the numbing shots, so you can't really even feel the shots. you will feel very little or no pain at all. i can't really describe how it feels any further, but it's like better than sleeping in. whenever i go to the dentist for a simple cleaning, i ask if they can put me on laughing gas because i love it! there's probably not anything we can say that will calm your nerves, but once they give you the laughing gas you will definitely calm down. i hope all goes well :)
