advice

i'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but yesterday i was shaving (with a bad razor...) & i got 6 cuts in total on my legs. they stopped bleeding, so this is why i'm not too sure if they have anything to do with this.

i woke up this morning with this orange like color on my legs. they're like streaks, and at first i thought it was dry blood, so i went to shower. none of it came off.

anybody help meeeee :/ i'm really upset because i have to wear a dress to a party tomorrow... so is there any way to clear this up a little? or tell me what it is? thanks :)

It almost looks like scars on your legs... the only other thing I can think of would be from any tanning lotion you may have used. I use Jergen's Natural Glow, and it leaves orange streaks if I shave my legs afterward. But if you don't use a tinted lotion, then that's obviously not it.

Get a razor that has a moisturizing strip- like a Venus or one of the nicer Daisy razors. The extra money is worth it, trust me. And if you don't use shaving cream, try to use it at least every once in a while. It keeps the legs smooth.

As for what to do about tomorrow... it's honestly not that noticeable from far away right now. I'm guessing that it will fade by tomorrow anyway. So if you wear pantyhose with your dress, then you'll be fine. Or, you could wear a little bit of makeup on your legs. Or... if you have any self-tanning lotion, try to use that tonight so it can kind of even out your skin tone.

So I'm doing this report and have to use MLA. I looked it up online and stuff but its kinda confusing. I know I have to use time new romans size 12. Does it have to be double spaced? I'm in 9th grade so I'm just learning how to use this. Please help me as much as you can. Thanks! Any other info would be nice too.

Yes, it does need to be double spaced (your actual report as well as your works cited). I agree that MLA is kind of tricky... I use www.citationmachine.net most of the time to cite things. It's pretty easy to plug in the information on that website. Also, if you have to use parenthetical citation in your report (which means that you have a cite after basically every sentence), that can be a little bit weird. Here is an example that I made up:

Studies show that whole grain food items should constitute 50% of the average person's grain intake (Smith 250).

That cite means that I got that from a book written by someone whose last name is Smith, and I got that particular info from page 250. That book doesn't actually exist though, it was just an example. So be careful about where exactly you put your parentheses and your spaces. There should be no comma between the author's last name and the page number.

Some teachers are more particular about certain things than others, so don't hesitate to ask your teacher what he/she wants, if you have specific questions. Actually, try to finish your report a little early and see if you can take it in to your teacher and have them check the formatting. It can't hurt :)

17/f, 129 lbs, approx. 5'2".
I've lost around 20 pounds in approx 5-6 months). I want to lose another 9 or 15 by May (for prom!). I'm more concerned about my appearance, than my end weight.

I've read that running (no hills, my treadmill can't do incline anyways) is a good way to lose fat/get skinnier, or it's a way to have the legs 'bulk up'; which I don't want to happen. So it would be nice if someone would clarify on that.

Thank you~

I think that running would be the least likely exercise to bulk up your legs. I'm a runner, and all the runners I know have slender (yet muscular) legs. When I started running, I got a lot smaller. And especially since you're doing no hills, it is a good fat-burning exercise. Exercises like biking would probably bulk up your legs, so stay away from that.

so the phrase "thats cool" is overrated.
so instead i now say "thats chill"
but now, a bunch of people in my school are saying it.

i need a new phrase!
like, "thats ________" (beast,bomb,etc.)

please and thank youuu.

I don't know how okay you would be with saying this, but my friends and I say, "That's sweet dick!" Or like, when something awesome happens, we just say, "Sweet dick!" It catches people off guard. Or you could say sweet d. Sometimes I say ballin' or pimp. You could go for the Juno thing and say boss.

Ok I will make this as brief as possible.

I am 18/F, been dating 21/m for about a month.

First date no kiss, second date kiss, third date nothing, fourth kiss, fifth nothing.....

but he keeps asking me out, is he just nervous?

He's also told me he "wants to make sure it's right" before committing to a relationship. Which I think I can understand if he really means what he said...

I'm confused. Does anyone have any idea whats going on?

I think that he doesn't want to go too fast and screw anything up. If he keeps asking you out, obviously he wants to be with you. But maybe he doesn't want to come on too strong and scare you off. I can respect him for that. My best friend would probably tell you to make the first move if you want something to happen. I guess it depends on how comfortable you two are, but you could always tell him that it's okay if he moves a little faster.

14/f -- Sorry this might be long! :(

So there's this guy from my school that I've never really talked... but Friday night, I was on Facebook and he randomly just started talking to me. So he was nice and all, but then he really started to suprise me...

-Friday night: First he kind of casually slipped in that I was really pretty. Then we talked for awhile, and then he asked me for my number, so I gave it to him (I lost my phone about a month ago, so explained to him that I probably couldn't talk on it for awhile). Then he started saying (after we had talked for maybe a half an hour) that I was really cool and it felt like we'd known each other for awhile. Then I had to leave, and I told him so, and he said, "OK bye. And I know I didn't say this before, but you're really beautiful :)"

-Over the weekend we didn't talk that much, just mostly told me I was beautiful and etc.

-Monday night: He greeted me with "Hey, beautiful :)". Also, I've been beginning to notice he talks a lot about how he treats his girlfriends (ex., holding their hand, listening to them, etc...). Then, kind of randomly, he goes, "If we knew each other better, would you go out with me?" And I just said it depended. (I like a different guy MUCH more than I like him). He started saying that he wished my phone would turn up so we could text because he had to leave soon. He was really starting to rattle some nerves... Then when I had to go (it ended up I left before he did) he says, "Ok, bye :(. I would tell you I love you, but I'll wait until we know eachother better." I just kind of laughed that off a little.

Tuesday night (Tonight): Greeted me with "Hey, beautiful" again. I didn't want to start going through teh usually ruintine where I can't even joke with him cause he's giving me so many compliments, so I tried changing the subject (Social Studies). Then randomly he goes "So, how far have you gone with a guy?" Now I was seriously getting either mad or freaked out (maybe both?) So I just said, "Uhm, not very far." and he just says, "So just kiss, and that's it?" and I said, "No, not even kiss. lol." (I've never even had a boyfriend, but I wasn't going to tell him that!) and he just says oh. So after a minute of not saying anything, he goes, "Maybe I could be your first one?" And I was thinking, OK, HOLD IT WISE GUY!! But instead, I said, "....lol??" and he goes, "I'm was being serious... so could i?" But luckily I didn't have to answer cause one of my best friends got on and I told him I couldn't talk.

Ok, now before I go on, I think I should let you know that I am 99.999887% sure this guy is a player. He has asked three of my best friends out, calls my OTHER best friend beautiful, and just broke up with this other girl. My friend also asked him if he liked me, and he said I don't know. Who knows what else he could be doing? I asked him awhile ago if "he is usually like this with girls" and he said no. Then I said "are you sure?" and he goes, "yeah I'm sure. What do you think I'm playing you or something?"

So I really need help. It's not that I don't feel safe around him or anything... no, not that at all... it's just he kind of... creeps me out a little? I mean I would really want to be friends with him, he seems like a nice guy. I just don't want to be...whatever he wants to be. I can never be, just, friends with him--I can never joke or say anything about myself (like, wow, I'm dumb!) without him rushing to my defence, or talk about anything besides my ex boyfriends... the thing is, I've never had a boyfriend!!

My main questions are:

1.Do all/ most boys act like this when they want to seriously go out with a girl?
2. How am I supposed to tell him I don't like him in a way that won't make things akward between us?
3. Is this a really bad situation that I should avoid at all costs?

Thank you so so SO much for taking the time to read this and answer1 Any kind of help is appretiated!!!
THANK YOU!!

Hey there. I'm really glad that you realize that he is kinda creepy. A lot of girls probably wouldn't, but that shows that you're one smart cookie.

1. No. I mean, nice guys won't hesitate to compliment girls, but this guy sounds a little overbearing. I'm sure that he is being very truthful when he compliments you, but it's up to you to draw the line somewhere. You seem to have enough respect for yourself to not put up with any B.S.
2. You can take the easy way out and blame it on your parents. Say that you're not allowed to date, or that you're grounded for a really long time. Or that your computer broke and you can't go online. Meanwhile, block him on instant messenger or whatever. You could always just tell him that you only want to be friends. But if I were you, I would quit talking to him altogether.
3. It's not really bad, but you should avoid it. Just tell him that you should be friends, and that's it. Period.

There are a lot of sleazy guys out there, but there are also nice guys who would do anything to make you happy. The guy you're talking about sounds like a player who isn't worth your time. Wait for a guy that will respect you.

do guys talk about like how far they've gone with a girl alot? and brag about it to their guy friends?

if you're in a year long relationship with a guy and you give them a bj or something do you think they would probably still go and tell their friends?

preferably 16/17 year old guys

Yeah, most guys will. There are a select few who won't, but that's rare. I've heard how far tons of guys have gotten because they tell their friends, and their friends tell other people.

I'm in 8th grade and I heard a lot of stuff 'bout high school. I heard about cliques (which kinda scared me) and about the work gettin harder and gettin more of it (more school work, that's impossible). So I need some trues or fakes. Are there the cliques? Is the work harder? Is there more work? Will it all be worth it? Am I gonna lose my mind on the first day? (please don't awnser that last one). Ok, 1 more question. What will high school really be like? I fu can help, then thnx. If not, then thnx anyway. Laters!

I loved my freshman year of high school. The best advice I can give you is to get involved. If there's some club that sounds like it might be fun, then do it. You'll meet tons of people. If you're in a sport, band, theatre, yearbook, etc., you're going to meet so many people. The cliques aren't really any different from middle school, honestly. The amount of classwork didn't increase much for me, even though I'm in all AP classes. You're not going to lose your mind, I promise.

The most valuable thing I've learned in high school is that you need to surround yourself with people that you love to hang out with. Don't waste any time with crappy people. I'm a junior this year, and this has been the best year of my life because I've realized just how kickass high school is. Yeah, the school part sucks, but if you take time to chill out with friends every now and then, it's not so bad.

My key advice is: don't lose focus on the actual school part of high school, but branch out and have fun at the same time. This will be a lot easier when you start driving because you'll be able to hang out with lots of random people more often.

I know it probably sounds like I'm some crazy girl who parties all the time. But ever since I started having more fun, my grades have been improving. Actually, I'm ranked #5 in my class of 400. So I'm basically saying that for you to make the most out of your high school experience, you need to take time to enjoy things.

Go listen to "A Praise Chorus" by Jimmy Eat World. That song has some great advice for making the most of life.

i wrote the semi question (im a guy by the way lol) but what is a boutonniere and where can u get them?

Hi! Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. Okay, so, a boutonniere is the flower thing that a guy pins on his tuxedo for a formal. Here's a picture:

http://www.estasflowers.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/Boutonniere6.jpg

You can get them from any florist. More than likely, your date has already gotten one for you. If you want to be sneaky, you can get one of your friends to casually mention something about it to her. Lol. But yeah, I have a formal this weekend (I'm a girl), so I got my date a boutonniere. I don't really know if he is getting me a corsage.

Also, it's always nice to just get her like some regular flowers or something instead of a corsage.

[view]

i have a school semi formal coming up..and i was wondering the flowers the girls wear around their wrist..i know where to buy them but about how much do they cost?

Here are some sample corsages with sample prices:

http://www.ftd.com/corsages-boutonnieres-ctg/product-corsages/

You didn't say if you're a girl or guy, but if you're going to the semi formal with somebody, generally the guy buys a corsage for the girl and the girl buys a boutonniere for the guy.

i am in 10th grade, swiching from percussion to play the alto saxaphone. I got my sax a couple days ago and ive been playing non stop since then. Im now trying to learn the notes so i went to tune my sax. but, when i play the c#, it ends up being an e flat . and every note i play, it ends up being a whole step up (ex when i play a d, it ends up being a f)
am i doing something wrong? how do i fix this?

thanks!

Don't worry, you're not doing anything wrong at all! I'm a saxophone player too. Basically, an alto saxophone is in the key of E flat. That is just fancy terminology... it means that when you play G, it should show up on your tuner as B flat. And when you play A, it should show up on your tuner as C. For the sake of comparison, a flute is a C instrument. That means that when a flute player plays a G, it actually is a G. We saxophone players have to transpose stuff (maybe because we're so intelligent). But don't worry, it's not as bad as it sounds.

What shows up on your tuner is called concert pitch. Generally, you should tune to a concert B flat (which is G on alto). Anyway, when you're warming up in band or whatever, and your director wants you to play a concert E flat scale, that means that you play a C scale on alto sax. Or, for a concert F scale, you play a D scale on alto sax. I'm not really sure exactly why there's such a different with the concert pitch thing, but every wind instrument (except flute and some low brass) is like that.

So keep learning saxophone like you've been doing, but just keep in mind that when you play a G on your saxophone, it is actually a B flat on a piano.

"Nothing at last is sacred but the integrity of your own mind." - Ralph Waldo Emerson, from Self-Reliance

please please please help me !

what does this mean?

thank you in advanced

Well, if I had to explain it, I would probably phrase it like the original. However, it means that while everything around you may be corrupted (people, politics, religion, your environment in general), the only thing YOU have control of is your own mind. Your mind is your responsibility. He's basically saying that the ability to think for yourself is sacred. This means that if you continue to study Emerson, you may want to start figuring out his quotes on your own for them to mean anything.

I'm 15 (a sophomore in HS), and I have never really dated anyone. It's not that i don't like guys (i'm a girl if you couldn't tell), because i have in the past, but they just never seem into me. I mean i don't think I'm ugly or anything of that sort, and i have guy friends, so i'm not socially awkward. Am i being very paranoid, or is this common (or both?)?

I first dated a guy when I was 17. Don't go out with someone just because you feel like you have to... wait for someone who is fun and a good person. You'll regret it if you don't. I waited until I found someone who I really got along well with, and my first date was super fun. So don't worry about the fact that you've never dated before.

this guytold me he liked me and i told him i did too. then over winter break he didn't talk to me at all, then IMed me saying ... "im bored" and i told him i was mad at him and he asked me why, but before i could answer he said, actualy don't. and then said something like, "do i still like you. yes." and then signed off. now i check facebook and hes in a relationship with his ex grildfriend. and her status is ... [his name]

I totally understand your situation. I had a similar one a few months ago. We dated for a while, and he made a big freaking deal about how much he liked me and liked spending time with me. And then all of a sudden, he was just like, "Nevermind, I never liked you, let's just be friends." And in less than a week he was dating someone else. Apparently he was "talking" to her while he was dating me. So I haven't spoken to him in three months.

Okay, so basically this guy is an asshole who doesn't deserve you. So don't waste your time on him. I know it will be hard to try to forget him, but trust me, it's best for you right now. Just keep convincing yourself that you need to stay away from him because he's a douchebag. Ignore the hell out of him, even if he ever tries to talk to you. He's a douchebag who doesn't deserve your time. Try to distract yourself with friends and other stuff like school. It is really fun to have a sleepover with friends and rant about how much guys suck. Your friends will help you through it, I promise.

i heard that for guys, saying a girl is cute is more of a compliment than saying a girl is hot, because "cute" is like someone you can bring home to mom and "hot" is someone you just wanna look at or $%#@! haha is that true?

the guy who said it to me was 24 but i just assumed he called me cute bc he didn't think i was hot but didn't wanna insult me, and then just came up with an excuse haha.

I agree. For me personally, cute is way better than hot. It's classier. Sometimes "hot" can be disrespectful. I think the guy who called you cute meant it as a better compliment than hot. In my opinion, hot is more about supermodel physical attractiveness, and cute is more about being an overall attractive person (personality included).

theres a girl that I like that im pretty sure likes me, but i only see her once a week. We hang out sometimes on other days but mostly Its only once a week. Im wondering if its even worth it asking her out even if she says yes because I wouldnt get to see her a ton
your thoughts?

I think it depends entirely on you. I dated a guy that I only got to see once a week. We tried to talk on the phone a lot, but it was just pointless. By only seeing each other once a week, we couldn't really get to know one another. He said it was unfair to me to have a boyfriend that I never got to hang out with. We got along fine other than that, so we decided to be just friends... except it's kind of awkward now. So the moral of this story is, if you date her and it ends badly, it could be awkward. And if she says no, it could be awkward. Do you want to risk the friendship?

Another thing- I assume that neither of you drive since you're 14. That makes it harder to date someone. I waited until I could drive before I dated anyone. So here's another thing... do you like her enough that you could wait a few years until you can drive and have an actual relationship?

Personally, I think you should wait a little while and see if you could possibly be content with being just really good friends. If that drives you crazy, then go for it- ask her out.

My boyfriend and I have been dating for over a year now and I was wondering if I should get his mom something for Christmas. I'm not really that close to her but I would like to be. She's very nice and welcoming (I'm always at their house) but she doesn't really talk to me all that much. Just your usually Hi, how are you. That kind of makes me timid about trying to talk to her because I'm not sure if she "approves" of me for her son. I was thinking that a gift would hopefully help change that. If i get her something, what should it be?

I'm sure that she would love a picture frame or a candle. If you get her something for her home, I think that would really impress her. You could even go with a Bath and Body Works gift set.

What do you think is the oldest a 16 year old could/should date?

No details, other than it would be legal. I just want to gain opinions on this.

When I was 16, I probably wouldn't have dated anyone who had already graduated high school (older than 18). Legality depends from state to state, of course, but in my personal opinion, about two years was the maximum age difference for me at that point in my life.

Hi there. So for our winter dress my friend and I want to wear converse with dresses. We saw Kirsten Stewart in Vantiy Fair wearing converse with a dress and we thought it looked really cool. I'm trying to find other pics of outfits like that on the internet, but I can't find anything. Can someone give me a few good pics with dresses with converse shoes? Thanks!

I LOVE wearing cons with formal dresses. I've done it twice so far. The two times I've done it, I was wearing a big poofy long dress so you could only see them if I pulled my dress up. But I'm going to a semiformal in a short dress in a few months, and I'm wearing lime green cons with that dress. Last year my best friend wore a cocktail length red dress with sequins on it, and she had red sequin cons to match. It was the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life.
