Advicenators discussion: Summer TheAnnie wrote Sunday May 4 2008, 12:07 pm: It's taking way to long for summer to get here. The days seem to go fast, but it seems that summer is never going to come. AngelofMercy wrote Sunday May 4 2008, 10:49 pm: Omg!! I feel the opposite. Of course, I have to deal with 3 bratty children, um..err I meant angels, all summer long. So, I am dreading it very big time. I am about to start my second week of my 2 week vacation from school. Then, I will be going to school again for another 9 weeks. This is getting tedious.
TheAnnie wrote Monday May 5 2008, 11:25 pm: well yeah i understand. my mom says the same thing. She's hoping that we will try to spend break outside at the park, but thats not gonna happen.
But, for a girl in highschool, summer is a good thing :)
What classes are you taking? AngelofMercy wrote Tuesday May 6 2008, 3:57 am: My next two classes are Cultural Diversity and Mass Media Overview.
I am planning on keeping my girls extremely busy this summer. We are going to enroll them in swimming lessons 5 different times. They are going to a reading academy for summer school. We are also getting a family pass to the swimming pool. One thing we are interested in doing is enrolling them in softball.
With all that, I am hoping that they are too tired to even think, let alone argue. So, keep your fingers crossed. Oh also, my step-daughter will be having a lot of counseling appointments to go too. TheAnnie wrote Tuesday May 6 2008, 9:13 pm: I used to play softball in junior high. It was fun. Although, I'm not amasing at it.
Then in high school I did badmonton.
Well, then I hope they give you piece. (I have three sisters and even in the best of situations we fight sometimes). It's a fact of life; siblings fighting.
Actually, one question that people ask me THAT I HATE is if I get along with my sisters (I have three little ones). The reason I don't like that question is becuase I mean come on. You can't get along all the time! EYou have to fight even if its something stupid. (Sorry, ranting) AngelofMercy wrote Tuesday May 6 2008, 11:12 pm: No problem. I am currently about to rant myself. Here it goes.
Start:
Ok, so the school system in my town has decided that they are going to change the way system is running. Currently this is the way our schools work: 4 Elementary schools PK thru 5th grade, Middle school for 6th and 7th graders, Junior high for 8th and 9th grade, and High School 10th thru 12th. Now, here is what they want to do; seperate the grades into seperate schools. PK and K will be going to one school, 1st and 2nd another, 3rd and 4th another, and 5th another.
Here is my problem with this situation- I have 3 kids in school, so that means I will be traveling to 3 different schools twice a day. This is ridiculous. Also, when I grew up and went to school, I went to the same school for 6 years. My brother went to 4 different schools in 6 years. I believe I got a better education because I had structure and stability. I knew which school I was going to every year and had no fears of change.
I think change is a good thing, however not at the expense of my childrens' education. It is unfair of them to expect this to be a good idea and have the parents agree with it. We didn't even get to vote on this. Let me see, last I checked, we payed taxes, taxes goes to the school system, and we should get the right to vote if we want to have this program implemented.
Stop! TheAnnie wrote Tuesday May 6 2008, 11:52 pm: WHAT? That's sooo lame!
My elementry school was to 6th grade. Jr high was 7th and 8th and high school 9th to 12th. Granted I moved alot and switched schools but that doesn't count.
That is ridiculas. Especailly how you have to go to each of the three schools. Won't it be weird for the kids as well to go to a new "school" every two years. Wow, how strange. How did they even get the chance to approve this? AngelofMercy wrote Wednesday May 7 2008, 12:37 am: I agree it is strange. Here is my problem with it, they will not have security because they are changing schools constantly. So, they have to become aquainted with new schools, principals, teachers, routines, and everything else. It pisses me off. Also, they will not be going to school with their siblings and that makes me sad. I can see when they get a little older and one is in Junior High while the other is in Middle School, but that is different.
My husband wants to home school the girls now because of this, but I am not up for that challenge. I know I want to be a teacher, but that is at a school that has set rules, places for things, and less distractions. Plus, those children will more than likely listen to me.
So, yeah. This has become a problem for me. There is a school board meeting on the 12th and we are intending on attending. We are going to try and fight this and hopefully get support from our community and fellow parents.
TheAnnie wrote Wednesday May 7 2008, 8:33 pm: Well, good luck with your fight!
And yeah home schooling is difficult. I would never want to be home schooled! I like seeing and meeting friends and other people. It's something you can't make up if you miss. Plus, making sure the work is done is even tougher. AngelofMercy wrote Thursday May 8 2008, 4:27 pm: I know. I don't know what to do. I know that I do not want to home school them, but hubby wants to do something. So, we will see.
Thanks! TheAnnie wrote Thursday May 8 2008, 6:48 pm: no prob. Best of luck yadda yadda.
