Advicenators discussion: Fonts

theymos wrote Wednesday February 13 2008, 8:33 pm:
To install fonts, you must:
-Use a tool like 7-zip ( [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) ) to extract the files from the zip or rar file.
-Move the TTF file to C:\Windows\Fonts

It's really that simple. I've made a video, with even more verbose instructions:

FAQ:
-Q-
How do I move the TTF file to C:\Windows\Fonts
-A-
Right click the TTF file. Its icon looks like two stylized "T"s. Select "copy". Go to C:\Windows\Fonts. In the menu go to edit -> paste.

-Q-
When I try to open C:\Windows, I get a warning about system files. What should I do?
-A-
You can go ahead and enter C:\Windows. As long as you don't *delete* anything in there, there is no way for you to mess anything up.

-Q-
I opened C:, but I can't find the WINDOWS folder.
-A-
Try your other drives, such as D: and E:. WINDOWS will be in one of them. If not, look below (alternative methods).

-Q-
The font file I downloaded from the web looks like this:

How do I open it?
-A-
You didn't install 7-zip. You can download it here:

-Q-
How do I extract something with 7-zip?
-A-
Right click the file you downloaded. In the menu that comes up, select 7-zip -> Extract files. Then press OK.

-Q-
7-zip doesn't work for me. What are the alternatives.
-A-
You can use winzip, winrar, peazip, or alzip instead. Google for them.

-Q-
Is there any alternative method for installing fonts?
-A-
Yes. Go to start, run. Type:
control fonts
and press OK. Go to file -> install new fonts. Select your TTF file.
