Alternative certification for teachers 22/f
Hello,
I live in Texas and I graduated with a B.S. in psychology. I realized that I wanted to become a kindergarten teacher or K-4th grade, but I don't want to go back to school. In Texas, we can get an alternative certification, but I don't know how to get it, how to start, or who to ask for this type of information. I asked a friend of mine who is a kindergarten teacher and she told me I would need to take three tests for the alternative certification, "PPR, EC-6 Generalist, and ESL (because they prefer all teachers to be ESL certified). I looked online and I got confused. There is so many different information, but no websites that leads for me to be able to register for the test. and if I did register, they said I would need to be pre-approved to take them.
Do you happen to know any information about alternative teacher certifications? Do you know who or anywhere I could go to for information?

Hi! I'm currently a teacher in New York City who is going through alternative certification myself.
I graduated last May with my B.S. in Chemistry and I'm a chemistry/biology teacher this year. I got accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows, which is the program that is allowing me to obtain my alternative certification. I'm teaching and in grad school right now, so life is hectic.
Here's some resources I found for Texas specifically: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
I think you'll need to do something similar to what I've done, which is go through an alternative cert. program (ACP). Basically you can't just take tests and be able to teach- you have to have some type of training/school.
Let me know if you need more help or have more questions.
Best!
