Nightmare where I cant wake up- what does it mean?

Question Posted Monday February 10 2014, 10:02 pm

Ive been having a reoccuring nightmare for a while. I "wake up" in my dark bedroom, as if i had simply waken up from sleeping normally, and there is a nightmare-y and eerie feel to the room (though that might just be because i am deathly afraid of the dark but i dont know) I usually immidietely know im in a nightmare, and my first instinct is to get to my mom. (Im 13/f so i still live with my parents obviously) not sure if this is important but i guess i better share everything, it never ever occurs to me to go find my dad, im always just "calling out" (more like a croaking whisper) to my mom. I will try to leave my room, but its usually a difficult struggle to even open my door, or even get to it, let alone walk out of it. Most of the time I am fighting for control over my body. Most of the time i end up floating against my will, being pulled slowly upwards by an unknown force. Then i "wake up" from that nightmare, but its actually just a different nightmare, the same events, and i had never woken up. This repeats about 5 times roughly, usually, sometimes more sometimes less, before i wake up for real. In the nightmare, it grows more and more frightening as it continues, the desparate feeling that i //have// to wake up grows stronger and I grow more scared, usually near tears by the last nightmare inside a nightmare. I guess Im just looking for an explanation on this, what it could mean, what might be causing it, what i could do to stop them from happening. Anything you know would be appreciated, thank you :)

These are common types of things called "False awakenings" and yes they are scary!

Changing something in your life is the best way to get rid of them- try to conquer fears, eat healthy, and most of all, change your sleeping habits. Eat a small snack before bed, get some excersise and try to relax so you sleep better.
They say a false awakening is an emotional problem youre tryin to confront.

Confront the nightmare. If you find yourself what you think is a false awakening, try to take a deep breath, and get up and move around. It becomes a lucid dream- a dream you are conscious of, and wheyhey- YOU have the power to control it. Look at a clock. If it is spinning rapidly - you're in a dream. Clocks never work in dreams. Alternatively look at your hands. They'll be the weirdest thing you ever see in a dream.

SO RESIST the force. Tell it to F*** right off. YOURE in control now.

Once you have control, feel free to imagine or try and get something to appear in your dream. By controlling the nightmare, you'll get rid of it- Or if it comes back, you wont be scared anymore.
