The only thing I know that affects the periods is stress and illness that prevent it from starting on time.

If this is your concern, depends how comfortable the two of you are and if you are fluid bonded. If you are young, i'd say wait until you're older and married or in a long term relattionship. Many men find it very sexy and erotic and actually excited when the woman is on her period, more lubrication for one. Only once did my flow not stop cus it was a heavier day, if its a light day towards the end, the period will stop with the onset of sexual intercourse...but both of you will still want to shower after.
