Neighbors and the "bro code"

Question Posted Friday November 30 2012, 8:32 pm

18, female, freshman in college. I will apologize ahead of time because this is gonna be kinda long and a little hard to follow and a bit rambly but I'll try my best. I live in a co-ed dorm at school. We are the only dorm on campus that is co-ed by door, every other one is all one gender or co-ed by wing or floor. Across from me is a really cute boy, Collin, I thought he was cute for the longest time. Collin's roommate's name is Vinny. Vinny is a very outgoing guy, he can talk to anybody and joke about a lot of things. Collin can talk to people but he isn't as outgoing, he's usually in his room playing guitar or studying but he does talk to most people on our floor. Except for me. This kid will not say a single word to me, every time I pass him in the hall he will look at me for one second and then look at the floor. Last night, my community advisor was in my room. He's a chill dude so he came in to hang out, our other neighbor was in my room and we were all playing Would You Rather. Collin walked by my room four times. Four times he looked in my room, said hello to my community advisor and the neighbor but not me. My CA looked at me and said "pretty sure he likes you" and just went on playing the game. I just do not understand why he does not talk to me. I'm not intimidating looking, like I'll beat him up for talking to me. Today, I passed Vinny in the hall, this kid won't talk to me either. Anyway, when we met in the hallway, we didn't know the other was there because we were both going around the corner. He was, like, an inch from running into me and looked at me real quick and shyly mumbled "oh, sorry" and kept going on his way. It's weird to me because both of them really have no problem talking to other people but they just do not talk to me.

This is only bothering me as much as it is because I had an opportunity to have a really great relationship with a really great guy but he couldn't talk to me either! He would write me notes telling me how he feels about me but he would always write that every time he tries to talk to me, he gets huge knot in his stomach. I just don't want that to happen again because I would really like to have something with Collin.

I was talking to my roommate and she said "well.. both of them can' talk to you but they can talk to other people." I said yes and she continued to say "maybe they both like you and told each other that you're off limits, you know, like bro code."

I just don't know what to do, Christmas break is fast approaching and that is five weeks long and I don't want to go all break thinking about what could have happened with Collin.

Again, I'm sorry for the inconsistency of my thoughts and such but I just need help. Why can't any guy that I like, talk to me? Do you think Collin likes me? Do you think my roommate is right about "bro code?" Thanks,
