ear peircing: is it normal for my new piercing to swell and bleed a little?
Question Posted Sunday September 9 2012, 6:25 am
I got my ear pierced just where the cartlidge meets the lobe last Wednesday, today is Sunday.. it was fine for like the first two days but now it is a bit swollen and bleeds a little.. I have been cleaning it with the after care stuff and drying it.. what should I do? By the way I've had my other ear pierced on the cartlidge twice before and they've only bled when I have taken them out to early or caught them.. is it normal for my new piercing to swell and bleed a little?

Rena-Chan answered Monday September 10 2012, 11:38 am: It is perfectly normal for piercings to swell and bleed. If it's a lot of blood, then I would suggest you get it looked at to make sure the piercer did not hit some sort of vein. If it's a little, chances are it just got caught and tugged on a little. It'll pass. You have NO idea how many people come back to the shop about their piercings. Is it suppose to swell? Is it suppose to crust? etc etc. Here are some tips about keeping your new piercing clean and help it heal properly.
1- When in the shower, be sure to work your piercing. If it's a stud, twist it. If it's a hoop, move it in and out. This way you can guarantee that the skin does not heal onto the piercing.
2- Take Ibuprofen for swelling and pain.
3- IF you use any soap to clean out a piercing, make sure it is anti-bacterial. As well as MAKE SURE that ALL of the soap is fully cleaned out of the piercing.
4- Eat properly and healthy. If you have difficulties in doing so, taking vitamins can help. Also, taking Zinc supplements can also improve and increase healing rate.
5- IF you EVER suspect you have an infection in your piercing, do NOT take it out. Instead either go to the piercer who did it, or go to your doctors. If you take the piercing out with the possibility of an infection, you may end up trapping the infection inside of your body, which can be very hazardous to the body part and to your health.
