That's the best thing you could do right now.
So worst case scenario is he doesn't like you back. So what? At least you got to tell him. The sooner the better. If you don't you'll feel trapped and if he doesn't return your feelings you'll get over him. And find another guy who loves you as much as you love him or maybe even more.
See, you should live your life to the fullest, stop doubting, stop regretting. If something good happens celebrate, if something bad happens count those as experience.

tell him you like him in person. go to lunch or something with him. He could easily like you back. I had a crush on my best friend last year, and i didnt tell her until 6 months before she permanantly left for cali. just tell him, its not worth it trust me
