Preventing Memory Loss

Question Posted Monday July 16 2012, 12:59 am

I feel like I am losing my memory as I am getting older, but I am still WAY to young to be having this kind of problem. Can any of you please give me tips or advice on preventing and reversing memory loss? Thank you!

Hello.

Well, the thing with memory loss, is that it isn't really normal. Just because you get older, it doesn't mean that you should start losing your memory. Because of this, if you are worried, you should really see a doctor. But in the mean time, there are a few simple things you can do to help:

EXERCISE helps to stimulate your mind and your body.
STIMULATE YOUR BRAIN by learning something. Read books, do puzzles, play an instrument etc, to sharpen your mind
STOPPING SMOKING may help because there is some evidence that suggests smokers are less able to remember peoples faces and names.
EATING HEALTHILY can of course help, to ensure your body is in top form, and to ensure you are getting all the right vitamins and nutrients. This is of course what we hear all the time: plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
SLEEP WELL to again, ensure your brain is focused properly. Get 8 hours, and have a routine.
TAKING VITAMINS may help. Some studies show that taking vitamins E and C helps to prevent memory loss. The study is not conclusive, but there is no real harm in taking vitamins in recommended doses.

These are all everyday things you can do to slow down memory loss, but like I say, you should visit your doctor as there may be something serious behind the problem.

Good luck :)
