Took some laxatives. Should I not eat until I "go"?
Question Posted Sunday April 29 2012, 10:34 am
I'm beginning to get really frustrated. I've never used laxatives before, so I can't imagine my body has built a tolerance to them. I took 3 doses within a 24 hour period, but I'm only feeling gassy. I feel like I could "go", but I would really have to strain myself. Would it be pointless to eat more food...shouldn't I wait until I clear myself out from the food already accumulated in my bowel? Btw, I am 21/F.

First things first, are you sure you were constipated, and not just gassy? If you were only suffering from gas, you should of looked for medicines that specialize in that such as beano, and there are others, I just can't remember the names of the anti-flatulence medications. As for eating after taking a laxative, it is usually best to wait at least 2 hours after taking the laxative (what my doctor told me when I had to take). But really, I suppose times may vary. If you typically have problems with going to the restroom, try adding more fiber to your diet.
Here is a site with foods with a good amount of fiber. [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
