So yes i dated my best friend’s brother for a few months while he was stationed a few hours away from our home. (he’s in the military). When he got deployed we wanted to make it work but he ended up breaking up with me and STARTS “dating" his ex! It’s understandable-they have a little boy together. But really? So he comes home soon and my best friend also has a kid, a girl. so her little girls birthday party is in august and he and his family will be there. I have no idea what to do/say/or act! Please help!

You could always tell your friend the truth. Tell her the wounds from that failed romance are still too deep. Tell her you would like to do something special for her daughter the same week or day before.
I think she'll understand if you tell her that it's awkward seeing him with a new family because of the past. As long as you care for her kid I can't see an issue. Besides, tons of things can transpire between now and August.
