i play french horn

Question Posted Saturday January 7 2012, 11:05 pm

First off, call me ice. Second off, I'm that same girl who.said she was ice and i already forgot what i asked last time! Anyway before i rudely interrupted myself, i play the french horn in band ( I'm the only one who plays this) and there is a solo concert thing coming up,and i think my teacher wants me to play at the concert she said i was doing really good on my song, but i don't really know if i should play at the concert. Should i? Should i not, not even risk humiliating myself in front of a professional JUDGE?! Bottom line: HELP!!!

From Ice

Hey Ice,

It's really great that you're in band. I play the clarinet and I absolutely love band :) But anyways, it's really cool that your teacher wants you to play at the concert. If you don't want to at all and you feel pressured to do it, than you shouldn't do it. But if you want to and you're just afraid of messing then you should go for it. It's not everyday that you get an opportunity like this. Everybody is human and we all makes mistakes. The real musicians understand how hard it is to go up in front of people and play by yourself. I've been playing piano at concerts for quite a few years, and I still haven't gotten over the fear of playing in front of people. The key to this is not thinking about playing in front people, just think of it as another practice you're doing at home, but make it your best one. This is really hard to do but everybody else will recognize that. Most of the people probably don't know the music, so when you mess up, just keep going on. If you dwell on your mistakes, then it's only going to make things worse. Let them think that was part of the music. In the end, do your best because that's all you can do. And that's how you'll remember it forever. I'm sorry this was so long but I hope this was helpful and good luck with whatever choice you decide to go with :)

if she chooses you, you are the best of the group and you wont get humiliated for sure, because you are good. and you play a pretty original instrument and thats already cool
