My Bank Statement says yes, the cash machine/atm says no.

Question Posted Tuesday December 13 2011, 6:18 pm

I am 20/F on benefit living at home, I want to pay housekeeping out of it but the cash machine says I have reached my personal limit and haven't any funds. However my bank statement says I have money paid in from the benefit office and have paid off my overdraft.

How can I access my money? Also would like to do some last minute shopping for loved ones before Christmas as used my last bit on small gifts for my family and partner.

Speak to a teller at the bank. Tell them that the ATM will not allow you to withdraw money saying "no funds available" and "personal limit reached."

My suspicion is that there's a cap on your account that you can only take out X amount at an ATM a day as there is with almost all accounts. Usually you can use your ATM card for purchases in stores etc. or shopping but if you want more than the daily limit you have to see a teller in person.

However, if your bank statement says you have money and the machine says ZERO than that's a totally different thing that you need to contact your bank manager about and your case worker over as they put the money in obviously and there most be a hold of some kind in releasing it.

It's odd but I would venture to think that it's just a cap on what the ATM will allow to be dispensed based on the info you gave us. Either way investigate it further at the branch and with the benefits office if they can't explain it.
