My Kidneys and Energy Drinks...

Question Posted Sunday July 17 2011, 10:33 pm

I drink 2 sugar-free rockstars daily, and I have been for a few years, and I think it's messed with my kidneys really bad...I feel discomfort in my lower back, and I know it's not just muscle pain...I know I need to stop drinking the energy drinks, and I'm going to stop starting tonight, but I'm worried I may have caused permanent damage...I DID have a Scan done last year to see if my kidneys were damaged, and they said they were fine, and my bladder was just fine, but there was just a pebble-sized kidney stone, but one that wouldn't need to be treated...so I went on drinking the energy drinks, and now I'm worried I f-ed things up...

I don't know if energy drinks can damage your kidneys, but they aren't healthy in general and if you can eliminate them from your diet then do so.

Your body is probably used to them and going cold turkey isn't a good idea. You should go to one a day for now and then once you get used to that only do it every other day, and wean yourself off of it.

Once you have gone a few weeks free of energy drinks, you should see if you feel a difference in your health. If your symptoms continue to persist, then you may want another scan. This can be a kidney issue or maybe something totally different.

Good luck,

-Abby
